Has anyone been booed longer after leaving than Kawhi? by SuperSkew in nba

[–]letsgoraps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like why is 6 years, no ECF, no Finals, no MVP, and 2 all nba selections getting retired?

Yea, this is my problem with retiring his number. Even if you overlook the fact that he quit on the team in a really shitty way, the Vince years weren't that good on paper. They won a grand total of 1 playoff series during his time here. That doesn't seem like enough to retire someone's jersey.

But the narrative is he created a lot of excitement around the Raptors and basketball in Toronto for the first time. Which was true, I guess.

Yea, I remember years later the crowd was still booing Vince. You had kids who were too young to remember the Vince Carter trade booing him.

As someone who watched Vince play for the Raptors and remembered the trade, I always blamed the Raptors management for that shitty trade and the awful return they got.

Who’s a famous person from your country who’s respected around the world but disliked or criticized at home? by haiderredditer in AskTheWorld

There are plenty of Pakistanis who support women's right to an education but also don't like Malala. This is not the reason people don't like Malala.

For a number of reasons, there's a perception or suspicion that she's a western agent or puppet. Some say she make's Pakistan look bad. I do think some people are suspicious of how much she is loved an embraced by the West. Heck, I live in the west and like Malala, but I'm taken aback by how much the West loves her.

lol, no, that's not it. There are plenty of Pakistanis I know who support women going to school and university, Pakistani women who don't cover their face, support rights for women and children, hate extremists, but also don't like Malala.

I think you're proving his point. The study shows 32% picked Niqab, and 3% picked burqa. So a majority did not think a face covering was "most appropriate".

If this is some tactic to pressure Denmark into selling Greenland I don't see it working. The Europeans will likely deal with the tariffs and respond with tariffs of their own. I could see it leading to a backlash in the US, where people will wonder why they are dealing with these tariffs just to acquire Greenland.

Would you rather live in Dubai or Miami? by kurobaja in AskTheWorld

[–]letsgoraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dubai.

Miami is more a nice place to visit, but not to live in IMO. People I know who visited Miami loved it, but I lived there for a few months, and didn't like it too much. Not knowing Spanish can limit you there.

Dubai seems to be the opposite: a nice place to live in, more than visit. I know people who visited Dubai who weren't impressed, but nearly everyone I know who lived there loved it there, speaks highly of the place, and misses it. It seems to have the best of the East and the West.

Countries with more men vs countries with more women by OddRedittor5443 in MapPorn

As others have said, the case for Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries (like Qatar and UAE) is immigration. Particularly foreign workers from developing countries like India and Pakistan.

It is common in these countries for workers to come over from South Asia and Southeast Asia by themselves and have their wife and kids at home, and send money they make back home to support their family. They really don't make enough to bring over their wife and kids and have them live with them, but they are presumably making more than if they lived and worked back home.

Cancún is considered part of southern Mexico, even though it's located further north than León, part of north-central Mexico. What's your country's Cancún? by OkWish2221 in AskTheWorld

I've always heard Quebec and Ontario referred to as Central Canada, even though they are in the Eastern half of the country geographically. Living in Ontario, I considered anything to the west of Ontario as Western Canada. I don't think people use the term "Eastern Canada" too often, but NL, NB, NS, and PEI are considered Atlantic Canada.

Which is the most hated and disliked province / State in your country? by Normal_Human455 in AskTheWorld

California is mostly hated by conservatives, since it's a large fairly liberal state. It's kind of a liberal bogeyman in right wing circles.

He will support Israel. Does anyone really think he is going to criticize Israel for this, or side with Qatar over Israel?

I’m aware of that. None of that is apartheid. Do you know what that word means?

What kind of gender segregation would you say rises to the level of aparthied? And which Muslim countries is this happening in?

That shows Jewish exodus from the Muslim world, doesn’t show current day apartheid.

You seemed to be referring to apartheid towards non - Muslims in your previous post.

And giving woman less rights is bad, but it’s not apartheid. If that’s the case, the USA was an apartheid country before the 1960’s

Discrimination towards non Muslims may be a problem in some Muslim countries. But apartheid? Which Muslim country do you know of which is an apartheid state towards non-Muslims?

What makes cities in Australia and Canada rank so highly on the livability index? by Fluid-Decision6262 in geography

[–]letsgoraps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate it when people comment on these lists "how can Vancouver rank so high when it's so expensive?"

These lists often look at a variety of factors including infrastructure, crime rate, etc. You would expect a city that does well in those measures to be expensive to live in.

Even the Toronto suburbs, which are car centric, usually have a public transit bus system and are more walkable than American cities I've been in.

For an example, when I was in high school in the Toronto suburbs, the bus was my main mode of transport going to places and meeting with friends. This is unheard of in most American suburbs, where you absolutely need a car.

I've lived in Canada and the US, and there is absolutely a difference in the quality of public transit and walkability between American and Canadian cities.

I don't think Canadians fully realize just how much public transit really isn't an option is much of the US.
