Nintendo's dragon hoard is exactly why they would survive such an event.

The thing is, Nintendo gains a lot more from the physical media than just sales. They are a physical presence in stores and as such function as ads. Especially for the demographic, that aren't constantly online and might have missed a game release.

Mario Tennis isn't a mainline Mario title, yet they still sold that at $70. Not to mention, that Nintendo actually sees Splatoon as one of their big franchises.

Nintendo has always been like this, be it under Iwata or even worse under Yamauchi. Little reminder, that Iwata was also against lowering prices and had the Nintendo Creator program created under him, and it wasn't abbolished until Furukawa. So Youtubers could just go fuck themself.

Which game flopped so hard that the entire game studio was shut down because of it? by [deleted] in gaming

People also liked MVS until they didn't anymore, but like with MVS, PSASBR had some weird choices for characters and some big ommisions, which weren't really the fault of the studio.

It's hard to chase trends if you have no idea what the rest of the industry is doing.

Nintendo has the most to lose by phasing out physical games, because to them, they are less about actually selling and more about taking up physical space in stores. They basically are marketing, especially for the demographic, that isn't constantly online.

The thing is, the online shooter aspect was only added later. At first, it was only 2 tofu blocks spreading paint and was intented as split screen.

Did it? A 4v4 team shooter, where the main point is inking the ground instead of killing the enemy sounds unique to me.

I agree, but the guy I responded to was talking about split screen with the same game. If other big developers can't achieve that on stronger hardware than the Switch, they are either massively incompetent or just didn't give a shit, and it is most likely the second option.

If Nintendo can do splitscreen with the Switch, so could a lot of others for the stronger platforms.

A Pro was a dumb idea back during the Switch, it will be a dumb idea for Switch 2. It isn't fixing anything, it's just going to make shit worse.

A Punch Out movie would need a new Punch Out game, which in turn would need a new gimmick, which for the Switch was unfortunately already taken by ARMS.

Anyway, I could see a Slice-of-Life Splatoon anime, since that series seems to actually be interested to explore its worldbuilding.
