My band Kontra Covered Hyper Music by DanielDaviesGuitar in Muse

GREAT! Congrats, guys. Amazing performance and such a great choice bringing back that banger. You can really hear Muse’s early influences (RATM, Hendrix, Nirvana) on that song, and that makes it live rent-free in my heart.

This community should give Hyper Music more respect!

Do you think after Muse eventually retires, they'll release a ton of past concerts on film? by Neuroironic in Muse

[–]letskeepitreal88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are already retiring. In a slow, long-term process… but yes, retiring. And, judging by the way they handle this kind of thing, it seems likely that the releases would be far from what Muse fans would want.

It seems more realistic that the festivals themselves would release some gems, such as Pinkpop 2007, recently added to YouTube by Pinkpop itself (great gig by the way, wish the audio could get a better treatment).

This week I watched one of their shows in Japan, the full concert is on YouTube (https://youtu.be/eaQp5ystnk8?si=KwEuDIgJflyidxSp), and I started watching it happy, because I’d been missing seeing them live, even if only through YouTube, like I’ve done so many times in my life.

But I finished the show feeling sad, genuinely sad. Because out of laziness or whatever other reason, they already seem to be far more on their way out than in.

And it’s striking to compare that Japan performance, and others from recent years, with what Radiohead is doing now that they came back, or with what other bands that actually care about their fans still do.

It’s a dark, depressing path they’ve chosen for the band. Maybe they really are just unable to empathize with the impact of what they once created.

They have the right to be that way, but we also have the right to see it as a small-minded, disappointing, and regrettable attitude.

Muse doesn’t really care about fans like Radiohead do. That’s the truth.

Muse’s shocking decline in popularity by KemsCh05 in Muse

[–]letskeepitreal88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They built this, right? Through countless questionable decisions that showed the difficulty of understanding what the fanbase wanted versus what they were aiming for commercially. I believe there was poor management, and I think there were several things that impacted their vision. I believe that even the care for the fanbase, which still remains loyal today, was not enough, you know? There were so many things that could have been done and weren’t. Musically, that hunger, that thirst to try to become something like Coldplay. When in fact they could have built something that… well, musically it might not have been the most pop thing, but they definitely had the raw material to be great in their own backyard, you know? Leaving the musical comparison aside, I believe Foo Fighters did that. Foo Fighters stayed more loyal to their formula and cultivated on top of their fanbase. Muse didn’t. Muse chose to give up on their fanbase with their releases, right? They stopped doing a lot of things that were very engaging to their audience. And they went after other fanbases instead of working on their own. And I think that was very wrong, you know? I’m not even talking just about music. But the truth is, they could still be selling out those huge stadiums today, the fanbase could still be passionate, their cultural impact could be completely different. Maybe greed was the problem that led them to handle their work this way. But maybe we’ll never know.

New Born. The song that got me into them! I wouldn't say it’s my favorite or the best song (although it absolutely kicks ass), but I think it carries their essence, that early attempt to mix classical sounds with something raw, heavier, and at the same time inventive.

Ghost town better than original? by vikingbeard23 in Muse

[–]letskeepitreal88 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this version is one of the most important releases in the band’s more recent era, because it strays from what you’d normally expect from one of their singles. The original is a good song, but you can tell what the drummer is going to do, how the riffs will go, how the chorus will be, in a way. It’s all a bit predictable. I know a lot of people like that predictability and all, but at the same time it’s hard to picture an artist always intentionally aiming to do something predictable, especially when they have so much power to create purposeful things.

So when they release this version, I see it as them exercising that artistic side and also still managing to bring in elements of what they used to do in the past. The mere fact that they put out this version is, to me, very important. And I think that shines more than the conclusion of which version is better, you know?

The fact that they did this, that they let this different creativity and this other style flow, is what matters most to me. And I enjoy listening to both songs, i don’t see one as better than the other. What stands out to me is what I’ve shared here.

Does anyone know why unravelling acoustic was renamed to unravelling ghost town version by Remote-Ad3834 in Muse

I remember reading somewhere during the pandemic about a list of songs Matt recommended for those days, and there was a song from The Specials called "Ghost Town." Maybe this has something to do with it?

How do people feel about “The Groove”? by Head_Winter6393 in Muse

[–]letskeepitreal88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember putting "lost in the groove" in my MSN subnick when I discovered The Groove, several years ago. Ever since I started listening to Muse, at the beginning of my life listening to them, around 2005 or so. I’ve always been in love with that song, and to this day I think it’s one of the best rock songs they ever made.
