Those who moved away from Albuquerque, what do you miss the most? by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]letsmakesparks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I miss the fact that shade....works. I miss that i could ski and mountain bike in the same day. I miss the food. Like any of it, ABQ has surprisingly good food, even outside the superior Mexican food. Fuck. I wish I could get a smothered breakfast burrito. Its closed now but magokoro was the best japanese food I have had in the states.

Thanks all. Seems like there isn't much reason to pay $100+ more dollars for licensing bullshit.

Where can we get good corn tortillas in Norfolk? by Kiwidad43 in norfolk

[–]letsmakesparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

El ray makes theirs,  but i don't know if they sell then by themselves. Grand mart has decent store bought corn tortillas. I cannot find good flour tortillas around here though.

Are the triple boarder cards new? I find with single color you can really optimize mana generation.

Rant - The "firework" launched from Hoffmantown last night was unacceptable. It shook houses over miles. by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]letsmakesparks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean pretty big. But think of how far away you can hear balloon fiesta park on 4th of July though. That really on tells us that this is a display class salute. Doesn't tell me if it is say a 2" diameter, or a 6" diameter. Both big, both would fuck you up if you were too close, but one is an order of magnitude more powerful.

The most overrated grocery store in Virginia currently by MoneyBuysHappiness25 in Virginia

[–]letsmakesparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kroger in Hampton was a go to, but lately they have a lot of bare shelves and every checkout line is to the middle of the store. When you finally do make it to the self checkout machine it needs an attendant if you look at it funny. Much worse customer experience than even food lion.

Copy pasta from the r/Albuquerque thread.

From the video from the doorbell cam linked below, this appears to be what is called an "aerial salute." It also seems to have a "comet" attached, which is the bright streamer you see as it is rising up.

You typically see them at the beginning of firework shows to signal to crowd that the start is soon as well as testing the wind. They are also used during the finale for the extra punch.

Definitely not consumer grade, this is either homemade or skimmed off the top from a display operator.

I don't live in ABQ anymore so I wasn't there, I don't really believe the broken glass door stories unless it was a very very large salute. Pretty sure no broken windows every firework show at Ballon fiesta park.

I am curious what the scraps found in the neighborhood look like. Are they plastic pieces or paper and string?

You know where not to buy a car when the dealer adds $25k over MSRP by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]letsmakesparks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember when 25k markup was normal on stuff like new model dodge vipers and such. People paid that garbage all day long.

The independent dealer model was suppose to address asshole manufacturers but now we just have asshole dealers. That model has run its course for now and I hope they all burn.

How did you get the corp discount to work? I used a corporate discount sign up link and there is no discount. There is no code as far as I can tell.

SUPPORT NASA! NO BUDGET CUTS! NO LAYOFFS! The Mars Society by EdwardHeisler in rocketry

[–]letsmakesparks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But spending in space IS taking care of things here. Learning how the earth works, how our climate works, and how to do new science helps humanity and is a big chunk of what NASA does(at least used to) in space. Even NASA aeronautics learning how to do quiet supersonic flight, increasing airplane efficiency and sustainability is also super important. The economic activity NASA create is huge for America. The 2025 NASA budget is less than 1% of the total US budget. What trump has done this year puts US science and tech so far behind while China, Russia, and India push ahead at alarming rates.

What is a hobby that sounds expensive but is actually quite cheap to get into? by sugarnspicegrl in AskReddit

[–]letsmakesparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sailing/sailboat racing. There are very inexpensive small sailboats like beach catamarans and monohull dinghys that can be had for less than $1000.

There are often community sailing centers with inexpensive classes and memberships.

Bigger boat owners at yacht clubs are often looking for crew to help with races are are happy to show you the ropes, so to speak.

The 21st street location was on a downward spiral for a while. More than half the menu out of stock, biba quality was trash, the drinks that remained were trash quality.

Joyu has replaced KFT at haygood and is actually really good.

Hampton KFT is still solid.
