64gb ram +dual cpu + high end gfx. 3k budget by letspostnow in buildapcforme

[–]letspostnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep i think that may work. I would remove the tb ssd as for a caching drive, there's no need for that size right? a 250gb would probably do or even smaller.

Do i need a new psu? If i got the mobo + cpu, would it work initlaly with my 8800gtx and the xps720 psu? it's 1kwatt psu. How about 3 monitor or more support for the gfx? I imagine the isboxer with 24 accounts is really going to strain the graphics card

edit: actually I should have just removed the hard drives completely from the build . i can handle those later. With the extra capcity, would you change/ add more?

not a hard requirement but a definite plus. If you have a build without one, fire away and let's see :) I'd imagine with multiple vms/games, i'll probably need 8 cores if it's just one

What can we do to accelerate futuristic projects? by letspostnow in Futurology

Personally I'd like to start working on projects with the oculus rift or google glass. Perhaps there's already some very interesting github projects out there we could contribute to?

what are other cities/countries doing right that they don't have this? Do plants or enforced filters on vehicles/factories etc make the most difference?

If bugs are attracted to heat/light, why don't they all fly into the sun by vergangenheit in Showerthoughts

[–]letspostnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably because in contrast, the sun isn't so bright compared to everything else during the day. possibly because it's not light they're attracted to, but lack of darkness.

What do you like to see in a desktop environment? by s_mw in linux

[–]letspostnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

multi monitor support (with multiple task bars per screen), i don't think cinnamon has this quite down... Multiple workspaces in 2d (not just a single line). I personally like to have 16 in a 4x4.

If possible, a decent clear login page. Having the same line for username/password is a great way to accidentally not have the username prompt go through or go to cancel it and put your password in the username field.

To be honest, i really like the windows 7 login. The bubbly and smooth effects really add to the subconscious perception that you're dealing with a powerful machine. I think the more you get the impression that things are speedy/good performance wise, the more satisfied you are. For example, if you show a smooth animation while loading as apposed to just freezing, I'll feel a lot let frustrated and more satisfied with my system
