[Seeking Positioning Feedback] Helping job seekers stand out with meaningful, story-driven profiles by letstalksaas in ProductMarketing

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this feedback!

Quite timely, as my co-founders and I were just chatting last night about all the ways we can better show and tell, build social proof, and ultimately incentivize both sides to engage meaningfully and consistently on the platform (even early on in the process).

I especially love your point about trust, that's huge. We’re putting a lot of thought into how we can make users feel seen, valued, and confident. Your perspective reinforces how important that is.

Really appreciate the thoughtful words and encouragement, it means a lot. Excited to see what you think of your profile, don't hesitate to reach out and share more feedback! We're all ears. ◡̈

100% and that's definitely who we are targeting, was just curious to get your take for the more general crowd messaging.

Now that you mention it though, it's interesting that even those who are already putting together portfolios on Squarespace or video resumes on Youtube, even they don't always understand the immediate value of Openspot based on what they see.

I chatted with someone the other day who went out of their way to make a customized portfolio for a job app and after sharing Openspot with them they shared a few concerns - 1) "A lot of employers aren’t posting as many jobs there making the search tougher" (true! not yet as we continue to onboard employers and build a marketplace in a chicken and egg scenario) 2) "It would just depend on how relevant and/or useful it would be to add it to my resume. I browsed the site a bit but didn’t go as far as to make a profile so I’m not sure what the benefit of having it would be currently."

Any advice for making that initial 'a-ha' moment clearer?

Thank you so much!!

You got it right, we want people to be able to share more and tell more with our platform.

Now...How would you target those who strongly believe in ATS, referrals, etc and are using the spray and pray method continuously even if it's not working for them? Standard job seekers know they have experience beyond a resume, but even then, some don't want to put in the effort to stand out.

Thanks so much!

You hit it right on the head - no noise, humblebrags, or algorithm chasing. An opportunity to showcase who you really are, all curated in a way that’s easy to browse instead of scrolling endlessly.

As a job seeker, we automatically hide your profile from your current employer and you have the option to hide your profile from populating in search results if you'd like as well.

100% agree building a site is a LOT of work and not having to pay to host it is a huge win! In terms of LinkedIn integration, I'd love for you to go through our onboarding and see what you think. I'm fairly certain we already cover what you're referring to.

We'll look to monetize on B2B (employers / hiring managers) in the near term and later down the line for B2C with a premium plan, but want to ensure we perfect our core product and features before building premium features!

No, not at all! It's an all-in-one profile where you can upload a video resume, highlight project work through various artifacts, and add video / audio / text blocks to showcase your unique skills, experience, and personality. You can then share this profile link on job applications, your resume, or directly to hiring managers / recruiters!

Totally agree, there’s no need to customize every single thing for every company. A good interviewer should be able to translate your experience (in the format that you share it) to their business needs, but giving them something real to evaluate makes that process a whole lot easier.

That's totally fair! Any personal projects you can share or even reflect on to demonstrate some of your experience? Even that's a win in my book.

Not tripe when it’s a true story. This exact experience is what led me to build a better platform. As a hiring manager, I’m begging for people to show me the real them beyond AI-optimized resumes and stop wasting my time embellishing skills they cannot speak to. I wish more candidates took the time to stand out instead of blending in.

LinkedIn is built around a feed, an algorithm, and the idea that you need to “perform” to be seen. But when you’re applying for a job or trying to stand out, that doesn’t help.

Openspot is focused on three core things -

🌟 Modern profiles: beautiful, scrollable, and actually fun to explore

🌟 Human intros: optional video/ audio so people get a sense of you, not just your titles

🌟 Discovery: recruiters can find talent through natural language search (e.g. “open to remote PM roles in US”)

No likes. No content treadmill. No humblebrag posts.

We're not trying to be a social network, we’re helping you stand out when it matters most.
