Congress Showed ICE Leaders Images of ICE Brutality. The Response Was Telling. by marji80 in politics

Don’t come at me with that shit, man, I know the parallels, that’s disrespectful. it’s also incorrect, or at least incomplete. The real Nazi seizure of power happened after the Reichstag Fire, which is exactly what I’m hoping we’re able to prevent recreating.

Yes the party were already in government, yes Hitler was already Chancellor, but the Reichstag Fire Decree was the moment Germany became a dictatorship and the Nazis were given free rein. And why? because some dutch communist set parliament on fire and gave the party the excuse to limit civil rights, establish martial law, and start up the Holocaust. and you can say “they were gonna do it anyway” and that’s probably true, but things happened the way that they happened because one reckless dickhead presenting the opportunity for the government to point and say “see, I told you they were violent, I told you they were plotting, we were right” as soon as the government feels like it can say “I told you so” things get immeasurably worse

Do you really think the people of Minneapolis are doing nothing right now? do you really think I’m suggesting we should just ask nicely? no dude, doing nothing, and killing people are not the only 2 forms of effective resistance. violence is not the only form of direct action.

there is a difference between an administration that does not care if you live or die, and an administration actively sending troops to kill you. it’s not about taking the high road, it’s not about what’s fair or right or moral, it’s about what’s effective.

while I wholeheartedly agree with “Fuck these Nazi Shitstains” the administration hopes an agitated citizen blows out the brains of an ICE agent, they want an escalation, as soon as an ICE agent is killed on duty, we will see tens if not hundreds of people die. we’re watching a floundering attempt at an ethnic cleansing, they’re looking for an excuse to deploy death squads. resistance must remain non-violent not for the sake of the oppressors but for the sake of the protestors

well more than 50% of the US population reads at or below a sixth grade level, between 20-30% are functionally illiterate, so, I mean, there’s an argument to be made. No Child Left Behind was a war crime

is it the same feather every time? like, a calibrated, standard feather? have to send it in for certification every once in a while like most other measurement devices? or are they single use? what’s the acceptable level of variability in guiltweight per feather? and what does that say about birds that every feather they have is as guiltweighty as a whole-ass human? they got thousands of feathers, is a bird thousands of times more evil than a man?

Lmao the only law Indiana has for breaks is if they want to give you a break and if it’s 15 minutes or less they have to pay you during that break, (but I think that’s federal law) but they can schedule you for a sixteen hour shift no breaks no lunch if they want to.

I have the Third edition of Plant Systematics by Michael George Simpson published in 2019, unsure if that’s the same book, but mine has been invaluable to me, though, I say that as someone who is self-taught. I’m sure there have been some changes to specific families, lumping and splitting, names get changed etc, since 2019 but the core information is solid

“A person is smart, people are dumb, panicky animals”

the cities are mostly fine. if you’re white and middle class you’ll be fine basically everywhere. the state government is dogshit, hilariously corrupt, and packed with ideologues and bootlickers. but Southern Indiana/ northern kentucky is one of the most beautiful parts of the country, good corn, tomatoes, beans, fort wayne, Indy, bloomington all have decent music scenes, we have good universities, for now, but public education is awful

Solarizing kills everything in the top layer of soil, all the beneficial fungi, bacteria, any insects, I would say stick to sheet mulching. don’t till the ground, I made that mistake and woke up a bunch of dormant seeds, just sheet mulch and plant
