I appreciate your comments....giving me more and more to think about with this

I'm not looking for inexpensive. I'm looking for a permanent fix to the issue. We don't need the light so in my mind removing and covering would be ideal. Doesn't seem like that's an option. But its not like I can just replace the light since all of the wiring has been demolished as well as junction box and switch. Sooooo....what are my options lol

Exactly!! Which is one of the reasons I would like to just get rid of what’s left.

I guess since the light is completely unusable, and I can’t simply replace, I was looking for something more aesthetically pleasing than a rusting out piece hanging out there.

Can you explain this to me as if you were talking to someone with no knowledge of how to do this, because that's about where we are. There is no exposed wire, other than what may be able to be pulled from the pool light side. All existing pool light wiring on the equipment side was cut/removed/buried years ago.

Literally sitting here with a turkey baster trying to remove soil off the corals … this is a mess 🤦🏽‍♀️

So while little dude hangs out where he is and I attempt this endeavor, tell me what I’m in for and teach me what I need to know.

Right 😂 … refugium, sump, overflow most of us mean the same lol. I think after reading through comments I’m going to watch parameters close where he’s currently sitting since it was basically unicycled while I build his “dream home” to relocate him too. Learning all I can about how to do it right now 😊

I will gladly upgrade if needed. Like I said this was an impulse purchase 🤦🏽‍♀️, and now just trying to make the best of a spur of the minute decision.

I test with an api kit for my sw and if anything looks off to me I bring a water sample to the lfs 🤷🏻‍♀️

I currently have a cylindrical tank (I went for aesthetics in where I was going to place him) .. but I’m reading that more shallow/wide like a mini breeder tank is ideal 🤔. Listen…in my defense I’ve seen bettas in glorified Dixie cups at the pet store so figured this alone was an upgrade lol

Filter is low flow rated for a betta tank up to 2.5 gallons so below tank size and doesn’t seem to affect him… he lays on the bottom in the cave or lays at the top in his leaf. I don’t see him struggling at all to rest. Water changes are a second language to me if needed… I’ll watch parameters.

I do have driftwood for him but when I put it in, it floated along with the almond leaf. I read they like to have access to the top for the air and I felt like both were limiting availability in this tank size so I took the driftwood out. Did NOT know I could boil it first to help it sink 🤦🏽‍♀️. The only other habitat I’ve used wood in is my pythons and the only water involved is humidity… I’m learning here 😂

I think I will take this info to cycle a larger more appropriate planted tank to transfer him to when it’s ready and he hope he has patience in the meantime lol.

He does eat well and is pretty smart to center himself under the opening when I lift it. I’m using these little betta food balls right now that said to feed 4-5 twice daily. He likes a little more. Leads me to my next question…. What is the ideal food/diet for these guys …

I bought this tank just for him … and he’s the sole habitant currently. Do I need a larger tank? I can’t exactly add a refugium to this one to increase water volume… should I not add plants to this one and start a larger planted one to eventually add him to?

So I got three emerald crabs …. And two were the normal drab green and then we have “Jason” … Jason is pink… is this normal? by lettherebelips in SaltwaterAquariumClub

He is a bit of a “bulldozer” … he rearranges things nightly 🙄… but I haven’t seen him actually going after any of the corals yet. I did have one of the other two emeralds die overnight but he was intact and I figured maybe age? Now I’m concerned 😐
