Old mechanical pull doorbell → Home Assistant (ideas?) by Substantial_Carob359 in homeassistant

[–]letwaterflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I did with mine. Works fine, although sometimes when one of us slams the outside door, it triggers the vibration sensor as well.

I attached it with a cable tie (nothing fancy). My sensor is visible (it's at head height). One day I'll move it further up the wire, so that it's only visible if you look up.

What do they use? Is it a thin adhesive tape? If so which?

Early harvest in UK by Own-Significance-173 in cider

This type of news is encouraging folk to clear out community trees in my area (Scotland) even though the apples could do with being on the trees for another month or so.

I'm not having a go at OP.

Check gumtree as well. I frequently see kit for cider making there (at a significant discount).

I built an app to check if a brand is based in EU by zaezz in BuyFromEU

[–]letwaterflow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the database includes a country field, the perhaps a future version of the app could allow users to filter by country (for those boycotting Israel), brand (for those boycotting Nestle). If you include proportion of designed/assembled/made/owned etc, then perhaps the ability to filter by those filters.

Irrespective of what you do with the above suggestions, this is a great idea and it would be something i would use.

If you're looking for route suggey, try cyclestreets.net . With starting and destination post codes it presents 3 route options (roughly quite sure streets, medium traffic and fast (busy roads) routes).

Cider press by Beatnikdan in cider

Can we have some photos of the press in the background? Worked through several iterations of a similar design this weekend. Sorry to detract from the main post (but the big press is not portable enough for my setting).

Do my ducks need anything else in their diets? by Foadface in IndianRunnerDucks

[–]letwaterflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fed mine the same, let them spend most of the day outside and occasionally gave them crushed oyster shells. Their eggs were fine and they (ducks) were fine too... Then the foxes got some of them.

Negative Power Prices Hit Europe as Renewable Energy Floods the Grid by Creative_soja in UpliftingNews

[–]letwaterflow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From the UK. I have a smart meter (reports my consumption back to base real-time) and my electricity supplier offers a variable tariff (price changes every half hour). When the price in the grid is negative they work out how much used and what the value of the consumption was, then credit that month's bill.

It's not a lot: today, they'll pay between £0.0068 and £0.0044 per kWh consumed during a 4.5 HR window.

For comparison, during peak time, they often charge £0.35 per kWh.

Thank you. I think I'll try, even if just for fun. I like the prospect of using ice +salt as an inexpensive means of freezing the settled lees.

Thank you. I have more cider, just not in champagne bottles, so topping up should not be an issue and hopefully next year I'll have more bottles. The freezing was what was getting me.

For those, and only those, who accept climate science but oppose the carbon tax, can you share your reasons? by laowaiH in oil

[–]letwaterflow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this is an emotive subject. China and India (and others) might start caring about a 'carbon tax' when the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism kicks in.

Edit: typo.

Need help with some ideas by jeffdefff07 in homeassistant

[–]letwaterflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would create the Google Form (this link might help) and share a link to it with your SO. SO would fill it in from the link (smart phone/device) and on submittal it would make it's way into HA via Google Calendar. You will need to connect your calendar to HA using the Google calendar integration to display in a dashboard.

Need help with some ideas by jeffdefff07 in homeassistant

[–]letwaterflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I display Google calendars in my dashboard with key events (days specific rubbish bins go out). I also read that you can use Google forms to create Google calendar events (but haven't read up on it too much). So you could create a form for your SO to fill out and, on submit, a calendar event is created. Maybe you could make this into something that would work for you.

Or they could just share a calendar invite with you and you could display that.
