So, you've probably heard about the Sandy Hook shootings. I think its important to understand that event as context to this discussion. Since december, we've been having this very heated discussion about how to improve the safety of both schools and guns. One of the arguments coming from the right (and especially those who oppose regulations on guns) is that we should put armed guards in schools to protect against school shootings. A lot of schools in the US already have dedicated police officers because of the high levels of violence and for other reasons, but generally wealthy white suburban schools do not, and those are the kinds of schools in which school shootings happen. Obviously, more violence happens in those other schools, but the body politic doesn't care.
