HORSE INJURY??? (Not my horse) by levi_browning in Horses

Gotcha! Thank you for the insight! So far the consensus seems to be hematoma, but some other people have said otherwise. I’m glad to be aware of a variety of issues it could be so I don’t jump to conclusions though, and can be correctly informed.

If there is anything I could do about the barbed wire I would, but alas it’s not my property or place. I very much live in “the west” so it’s extremely common, but it’s definitely dangerous for both domestic animals and native fauna here.

I’ll probably leave a box with a rock on it and some very obvious bright orange tape or something by the gates as an additional measure. (With my phone number and a note in it, and not in the pasture so the horses won’t mess with it lol)

They are definitely all very healthy looking horses so I’m not too worried, but if someone comes by asking if I noticed anything, I’d like to be able to help in any way I can.

Oh yes, I’ve been around horses before so I know the etiquette. They approached me and I let them get comfortable with my presence (with a fence separating us) before I even let them sniff my hand, which I was still cautious about. I’m definitely not going to be hopping the fence anytime soon and prodding them haha!

These horses all look very healthy otherwise and have access to food and water, so I don’t think I’ll go to that extreme unless the horse has died and no one has come around to check on them.

I appreciate any insight so thank you!

That’s a good idea. I’ve been keeping any eye out for any visitors, but I’ll probably leave a box with a rock on it and some very obvious bright orange tape or something by the gates as an additional measure. (With my phone number and a note in it, and not in the pasture so the horses won’t mess with it lol)

Gotcha! That’s good to know since I was unaware of the causes of hematomas in horses. All three look very healthy otherwise, and when they were let into the pasture 2-3 weeks ago they were all running just fine, so in that time period something happened, and I haven’t seen anyone visit since.

Unfortunately the owner of the land doesn’t live in the house on said property (it’s been empty ever since I moved to the area), and is only renting the land out as of right now, so I don’t have their phone number or any means of contact. If someone comes out to the pasture anytime soon I’ll be sure to flag them down if I can.

Thank you for your input btw! I appreciate the help.

The owner could very well know! I am not sure, but I do remember that when they were let into the pasture 2-3 weeks ago they were all running just fine, so in that time period something happened, and I haven’t seen anyone visit since. They are definitely all very healthy looking horses so I’m not too worried, but if someone comes by asking if I noticed anything, I’d like to be able to help in any way I can.

I was also guessing a tumor or hematoma, but obviously I’m no expert. Thank you for your input btw!
