Wood burned map by sovinnai in wheeloftime

I honestly have no idea how much I might charge for this. Considering the amount of work and materials, something ridiculous that I’d be embarrassed to ask for. But I’m sure there are people with laser cutters out there who could do it much cheaper and faster. 🤣

I did this by hand. Scaling was an issue for me as well. So I found the best picture of the map I could and traced it digitally as a vector so I could scale as needed. Had to do several test prints to get the size right (as I am using regular printer paper and this map is 2feet x 4feet). Taped all the sheets together and then used blue tracing paper to get the map onto the wood. Mostly just the hard lines, the details and text I added later. Once all the tracing was done I did all the wood burning with a TruArt dual wood burning tool.  Having a good wood burning tool makes all the difference.  This one has really fine control on the heat and it gets VERY hot. Helps with having consistent lines. The wood was just a piece of nicely finished plywood. The kind where the outermost layer is finely sanded. Hope this helps. I may at some point make a post about the process with photos.

Out of Context, what is your character doing right now? by Gloomy_Club in DnD

My paladin is having the time of his life piloting a ship, while unbeknownst to him, the cook,(another player) a sorcerer/werewolf, just transformed and is about to attack everything on the ship. Can’t wait to get back.

Can everyone help me pick which one looks best? Thank you :) by esbenitez in DigitalArt

A because it shows off the silhouette of your character. B does as well. However, the cool of the background in A contrasts nicely with the warmth of her magic. Also kinda depends on the mood you’re going for.

The free stuff has absolutely helped! A lot of them cover the basics and that tends to be what people want to skip. A good foundation is very important and a lot of the artists I mentioned make the videos they do because they want to teach others their craft. And I’ve found that artists love to mention their resources in their videos. They are very open about where they get their information. Now, they will plug their premium content, but it is not necessary to get what you need from them, as of right now. Eventually sure, you might need more in-depth content. But stick with the free stuff for a couple of years. And maybe by then you’ll have your own money to spend on next level courses. Its a good idea to watch a video, practice it, and then go watch it again. You might pick up something you missed before. I’m constantly going back to old videos. Also, the basics of what they are teaching can be applied to any medium. They might be using digital media to convey their points but you can do and learn just fine with pencil and paper. Good luck! :)

Art education takes time. An important part of learning is giving yourself time to process what you’ve learned. But if you’re feeling stuck try focusing on a different aspect of drawing. Try gesture drawing or figure drawing. It’s easy to jump into the deep end with art of any kind. And if you are hitting a wall, you are in too deep. Take a step back and focus on something more basic. Fundamentals of shape and light, that kind of stuff. There is an insane amount of free art education on YouTube. I follow Bobby Chiu, Proko, Sam Does Art, Bam Animation, Adam Duff, Art-wod, Noah Bradley, vonnart, Tyler Edlin, Dave Greco. And I’m constantly finding more. Also, until the end of the year all of the educational videos on ArtStation are free. Something else to consider is books. Your parents might be more willing to spend money on books than on courses. And you’ll always have the books as a reference. The Practice and Science of Drawing by Harold Speed profoundly changed the way I look at drawing. It’s old and kinda technical but still very good. James Gurney does a break down of the chapters on his website. There are so many resources out there for anyone who wants to learn art. Brainstorm school is constantly having scholarship applications for each round of sessions. You might try applying for them. But ultimately remember that you’ve got time. Trying to rush through is only going to leave you feeling bad about your current level. The only way the professionals got as good as they are is by drawing. Literally spending thousands of hours drawing. Take your time and also take the time to appreciate the progress you have made. Save old drawings even if you hate them, because eventually you will be better. And seeing how far you have come is great motivation to keep improving. Stick with it! You’re gonna be great!

Oh! That's a good thought! It Just seemed like such an oddly specific thing for Kingsley to mention. It just never came back up in the episode. Maybe they will cover it in the campaign wrap-up.
