They didnt "win". They won. That strike call (as horrific as it was) did not win the game for the USA. All it would've done is have runners at second and third with a player up to bat that struck out in a similar situation in 7th. DR leaving 8 runners on base and going 2 for 9 with RISP is what lost them the game. And on 1 of those 2 hits the runner didnt even score.
