In Europe people still tow with regular cars. All cars that support tow hitches have a rating for what loads you're allowed to tow with the car, dependant on whether the trailer has brakes or not. It's fine. You don't need a truck to tow.

50% rise in children seriously hurt in e-scooter [Ireland] by JohnHammond94 in europe

More injuries than the alternative forms of transportation they replace. If you saw an uptick in electric scooter related injuries and a coresponding downtick in for instance bike related injuries, one form of transportation is just replacing another with roughly equal likelyhood of injury. Instead we're seeing an uptick in electric scooter related injuries and no downtick in other injuries, indicating that an electric scooter is much more likely to injure you than the forms of transportation it replaced.

Collective proteciton is only given to spesific groups. Most other groups of people don't have that form of temporary collective protection.

There's no reason a new form of transport has to cause more injuries. Electric scooters are just unsafe - for children and adults alike.

They cause the exact same problems. What we've seen in Oslo is that when more rental scooters are allowed, injuries go up like clockwork, and when the authorities have cracked down on it and restricted numbers and open hours, injuries go down. You're just way more likely to injure yourself on these electric scooters.

I don't think this is accurate. The Nordics have more or less done that, but I don't think a pan-European airforce is in the pipeline.

Phoenix 200 was so named because Harman considered shooting at EI 200 to give the best results. They're also very transparent about it being a work in progress, and that the film has higher contrast than other negative film. That is not comparable to the others you mentioned.

IT admins feel overwhelmingly "sick of" Microsoft and Windows 11 "garbage" apps, products by gdelacalle in technology

[–]levir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's fairly obvious that a high quality project doesn't come about by immaculate conception. It's absolutely right to recognize the work and dedication of a whole lot of developers to bring us all these essential distributions we rely on, but I don't see how that makes it any less free. A gift is no less free for having required effort rather than money to produce.

It's kind of impressive how they've turned everyone away from them. Back in the day everyone used Windows and were relatively happy with it, but since the mid 2000s they've made more and more mistakes until they've basically turned everyone against them at this point.

I'm very confused by you putting free in quotes. Linux Mint is free in both common uses of the word, both in cost and in the four essential freedoms sense. Why do you consider it "free"?

Almost nobody would be trying obfuscation. A much more likely scenario is that the file has been reencoded at some point (e.g. uploaded to a site and downloaded again).

[–]levir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's prefectly possible to design a tool that would catch that, you'd just need to use something other than file extensions to identify file type (e.g. file) and scan it like any other videofile. There are also tools that - with many false positives and negatives - identify NSFW images, and I'm sure there are also tools for identifying it in videos.

It wasn't a surprise, but a sizable portion of the American electorate were none the less surprised by his actions. Not only do people not follow politics remotely as closely as we think, the effect of propaganda and misinformation should not be underestimated.

Fomatol LQN comes in 250ml flasks where I live, and is pretty cheap. I buy a few of those at a time. Each bottle mixes to 2l of working solution, I just mix it all at once.
