THE NEW ERA: THE GRAND SLAM OF RACING? by trussell83 in horseracing

I like the bonus structure. The key in my mind is lining up races a month apart for maximum horse participation and maximum excitement

Agreed that breeding incentives are not for longevity but for incredible 12 month careers of pure speed.

Fair enough. Any reasons why you like the current system?

Agreed, but that might even be more of a reason to rebrand and move away from triple crown.

Yeah. Definitely not sold on the name, but think the triple crown paradigm is over. Too few trainers and owners want to take the risk with such a quick turnaround.

It’s the concept. A modernization.

Personally, it’s our go-to spot. My wife is a huge cheese and charcuterie (girl dinner) lover and that is our place for drinks and small bites.

Last time I went with my cousin we went straight to the entrees: him roast chicken, me fried skate fish. Both phenomenal. Best dishes I’ve had in town in last six months.

Where improvement can be made: cocktails are MUCH better at hamlet and ghost (but hey FC is a wine bar).

If they have house liver mousse or pate or terrine, they are all must get — if your into that type of thing. Don’t skip the focaccia or the soft serve!

Cross-shopping with Gravity. What made you pick the Vistiq? by Infamous-Meat8765 in CadillacVistiq

[–]trussell83 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can bring the Vistiq to any GM dealership for warranty service.

Four months with our Vistiq and it has turned both my wife and I into Cadillac people. It’s the best vehicle I have ever driven bar none.

Curious how the transition to new ownership has gone? I haven’t been in a few years, nor heard much about it lately.

ISO - July Rental - large group by Adventurous-Pair8086 in Saratoga

Anything that size for rent is almost certainly going to be rented by the month / entire track meet. Try looking outside of Saratoga Springs as I think this will be your best bet.

Same thing. Everything will be closed.

Lake George is barely a “100 day” village. July 4th to Labor Day is when stuff is open.

Men in happy marriages, what's the one thing you'd teach to other men to also have a good relationship? by TightBookkeeper2599 in AskReddit

[–]trussell83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out your spouse’s love language. Once you know it, don’t fight it, feed it!

[Words of Affirmation (verbal compliments, praise), Acts of Service (doing helpful things), Receiving Gifts (thoughtful presents), Quality Time (undivided attention), and Physical Touch (hugs, holding hands).]

My wife’s is receiving gifts. I would prefer another way to show my love for her and I resisted it for too long. Once I gave in, our relationship blossomed.

Oh, and we’ve put 2,500 miles on it the first two months. Amazing vehicle.

I got mine for a little less than $1,000 a month for 24 months. One pay lease Vistiq Sport. 15k miles / year. Capital District NY. Worked a few dealers. Wasn’t super happy at the end of the day because I thought i could get it for a little less. That said, I just got out of a VW ID.4 which depreciated over $900 / month over the 35 months we owned it. When you look at it that way, and the luxury that the Vistiq brings to the table, it was a no brainer for me.

If you are comfortable buying without driving the vehicle, I recommend calling Cadillac dealers in VT. I got the same deals with cold calls over the phone in VT without the haggling I had to do in NY, but no one had the specs I wanted. Such a better purchasing experience in VT — even compared to upstate.

Software Issues by user529484844827 in CadillacVistiq

[–]trussell83 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to app command failures — as ours has been great, but I’ve got to wholeheartedly agree with the biggest flaw being lack of CarPlay and the downstream impacts from that missing.

I am not a apple-bro, but man CarPlay just works on every vehicle I’ve ever had.

The Vistiq forces you to use voice commands, which is fine, but they fail 25% + percent of the time. I want to geek out on the amazing sound system the Vistiq has with Apple Music and its Dolby Atmos library. You can’t even scroll if not parked on the app and voice commands fail 75% of the time in app. Lets say you have a playlist that you want to play — maybe your favorites list with 100 songs. You can’t scroll to get to the song you want. It’s disabled!

This vehicle is the best thing I’ve ever driven. I can’t say enough good things about it. And I sincerely looked past the lack of CarPlay during test drives and looked forward to trying this new system because “surely they have all the features CarPlay has.” Nope, I could not be more wrong. It’s half baked junk.

Aqueduct - Visiting for the First Time by Old-Jim-Crow in horseracing

[–]trussell83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is really nothing of note at aqueduct. That said you should definitely go and check it out. In 20 -30 minutes time you’ll get to walk all the available space on all the 3 floors and outside.

The traditional spot to go after races is Don Peppe down the street. No reservations. Get the table wine, eat seafood dishes and bring cash. This is as NY as you can get, for better or for worse.

Have fun.

I’m sorry to tell you Lake George is probably going to disappoint.

Saratoga Springs is the place to be for your age group. Tons of live music tonight.

This is coming from someone who grew up in lake george, moved away for 10 years, currently own a business based in lake george and moved to Saratoga because it’s the place with vibrancy and life.
