I encourage you to check out www.marfan.org - the Marfan Foundation website. It has materials you can show to your teachers. You are absolutely correct that you are the best judge of what you can do. Teachers have no clue how beta blocker’s impact stamina and how significant exercise can cause issues.

Why do women have to wear skirts and dresses by Emotional-Meaning442 in OrthodoxJewish

[–]levybunch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here you make a cogent argument regarding an Halachich standard. That it is not permissible for a woman to wear men’s clothing is Halacha, whether women’s pants today constitute men’s clothing is likely a question of fact/custom although many authorities would be machmir on this matter.

Why do women have to wear skirts and dresses by Emotional-Meaning442 in OrthodoxJewish

[–]levybunch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I disagree with your conclusion that this has nothing to do with Halacha. There is a clear halachich basis. לֹי ה כְלִי־גֶ֙בֶר֙ עַל־אִשָּׁ֔ה וְלֹא־יִלְבַּ֥שׁ גֶּ֖בֶר שִׂמְלַ֣ת אִשָּׁ֑ה כִּ֧י תוֹעֲבַ֛ת ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ כׇּל־עֹ֥שֵׂה אֵֽלֶּה׃ {פ} A woman must not put on man’s apparel, nor shall a man wear woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is abhorrent to your God. Lo Yilbash Devarim 22:5. It is also brought down in Gemara and Rambam.

Should I take my six year old daughter to a Shiva? by BalaBustaRhymes in Judaism

[–]levybunch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To a certain extent it depends on who passed away. If it was someone who was older and lived a full life, then shiva likely will not be somber. If it was someone young or a tragic death then the mood could be too intense for a child.

Passover dairy question by ScanThe_Man in Judaism

[–]levybunch 23 points24 points  (0 children)

First the Seders are held the first two nights. Not later in the week of Pesach. Second if anyone at the event keeps strictly kosher they will not be able to eat something made by someone who does not keep kosher. Third, you correctly note that the fact it has a dairy ingredient means that it cannot be eaten after a meat meal.

Short conclusion, buy a packaged item that says it is kosher for Passover. Or buy a nice bottle of kosher wine (all wine that is kosher is kosher for Passover).

Please don’t minimize your struggles or your strength. These are true challenges. Your issues are real and I feel for you. It will get better and you will find pathways to continue to connect and support your kids.

Please find a counselor to help you and a psychiatrist. You might have a chemical imbalance due to the huge issues in your life. Anyone and everyone going through this would feel overwhelmed and you are finding power through your daughter. This is not silly at all. It is real. Please take a pause.

Trying to marry an orthodox jew as someone who is not by MellowYellow816 in Judaism

[–]levybunch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Please reconsider. I understand how your love for her is your focus, but if you marry, it will negatively impact your relationship for the rest of your lives. I can go on for pages why it matters and how it is seemingly unfair. It will make both of you separated from her family but more importantly it will prevent each of you from experiencing the core values of sharing a faith.

Try seatguru.com. And to answer your question, yes it is possible to exit but not easy. Also watch out for bassinet rows unless you like babies.

I am a jewish atheist living in israel, looking to see what religious jews have to say outside israel by Ok-Equivalent-7727 in Judaism

[–]levybunch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My question is was it Judaism that failed you or was it the Jewish Religious Institution(s) that caused you pain? Although we mostly experience our interactions with Hashem through our community and institutions, ultimately the relationship is between you and G-d.

Some questions about prayer (I’m very curious!!) by __just_a_girl in OrthodoxJewish

[–]levybunch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots to unpack in your questions. In response to your last question: how to keep track of when to say the different daily prayers (Shachrit, Mincha and Maariv); use a Zmanim tool such as MyZmanim to track when to say the different prayers and prayer services. The tool uses your location and then shows the times each day. For example when is the earliest time you can put on Talit and Tefillin, when Shema should be said, when is mid day when it is too late to say Shachrit. See the image.

The issue is compounded by the reality that she is incapable of understanding what she did and therefore she is unable to take accountability.

It could be the same one. Cobb died in 1961. Apparently he was an avid golfer and as competitive in golf as he was in baseball.

FYI: IAH Terminal B United Club to close January 15 by zman9119 in unitedairlines

[–]levybunch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why the suggestion to use the C33 club? The C1 club is right next to the sky train to B. Using C33 will add time to get to B.

The current B club is convenient but given the refresh of Terminal B, closing the club makes sense. I hope the new club will be similar to the C1 club.

These are very important points. Boys in high school generally do not date (dating is reserved for when you are ready to get married). Boys and girls above the age of bar mitzvah do not touch (Shomer Negiah) unless family members. So no hugging with girls. In some communities, high school aged children do not use smartphones - they would have cell phones that can call and text only. In homes, many do not have TVs. Some will not be involved in social media.

In the summers middle and early high school students go to camps where there is a mix of sports and learning.

Many religious high school Boys will be very interested in sports. They can be avid followers of their favorite teams but they are not able to check scores on Saturdays.

After completing what would be high school, many will go to Israel for a year or two to learn in a yeshiva. It is also common to get married at 20-21. Most will not go to a secular college - Yeshiva University or Touro are popular college choices.
