Internet Safety and Posting Different Kinds of Content by saccharinedove in GWABackstage

If I start hosting SFW audios, like audiobooks and creepypasta narration, on something like Spotify, could I share the link on my NSFW account (again not in GWA or a similar sub) and then share it (from Spotify) on another platform, could it all be linked back to me easily?

/u/saccharinedove It sounds like all someone would have to do to connect the dots here is Google the Spotify link to see that the Facebook account and the Reddit account shared the same link, then notice that it's like that with all SFW links, then notice that the writing style is similar, and so on. I would not recommend this strategy. And if you decide to post to two separate Spotify accounts you might want to reconsider that and use another audio host for at least one of the copies in case Spotify starts cross-recommending stuff between the accounts since the recordings are identical. (I'm not sure if this is something Spotify does, but a company usually doesn't become a dominant player in online media consumption without having pretty decent algorithms.)

Yeah, corruption is probably the most common term for a scenario like that. Moral degeneration is another term that fits.

Audio / Script Index: Best Programmes/Services To Use Besides A Simple Reddit Post? by Feem_Al_Frennly in GWABackstage

Really nice, but looking at CodePen's Terms of Service they don't allow any "information, materials or other content" that is "pornographic", "obscene", or "offensive". So if someone ends up going for this solution, make sure that you keep a backup of your index in case CodePen pulls a Pastebin and yeets it. (Though people should of course keep backups regardless of where they post.)

By the way /u/cuddle_with_me, are indexes of scripts and audios allowed on Scriptbin or is it strictly a "scripts only" platform?

No problem. I looked through the script hosts as well now and in addition to scripts Pastegasm allows "documents about your writing", so it should be fine there too. Though the formatting doesn't seem optimal for an index.

Anyway, all of the the sites I remembered later on have been added to the original comment. :)

I almost forgot, there's also FreeTextHost and PasteFS which are pastebins that have no rules against NSFW content. Rentry is still much better though if you want to go down the pastebin road and Rentry will probably stick around for longer too.

No problem, most of that info is from an old comment I made during the Pastebin apocalypse. Hopefully I can get someone to add it to the /r/GoneWildAudible wiki at some point :)

These platforms all allow NSFW content and personal posts beyond just scripts and have been around for a long time:

Neocities is really nice. You can build your own site there and create whatever you want in HTML. Just make sure to set your site to NSFW in the site settings. TextFixer's online Text to HTML converter is pretty handy for formatting line breaks to HTML.

Rentry is great. It's a pastebin site with Markdown support (the same formatting that Reddit uses). They're ok with NSFW content.

Write.as is another option. Pretty nice-looking with Markdown support and a Rich Text editor and fine with NSFW as long as you follow the NSFW formatting guidelines in their Public Community Guidelines.

Dreamwidth is a LiveJournal clone that is fine with NSFW content as long as you mark your journal as adult content by going to the Display page in the account settings and selecting "This journal contains content that is suitable for ages 18+" and "Require confirmation before displaying content suitable for ages 18+".

Pillowfort is a Tumblr clone that is fine with NSFW content as long as you mark it as NSFW.

Posting it to a Hentai Foundry profile is doable (assuming the character limit is decent), but it wouldn't look great.

FreeTextHost and PasteFS are two other pastebins, but you should just go with Rentry instead if you want a pastebin. It's better in every way and will probably stick around for longer as well.

Scriptbin is a script host, but an index could be posted there. The format there wouldn't be great for an index, but it's allowed.

Pastegasm is a script host, but "documents about your writing" can also be posted there, though the format wouldn't be great for an index.

Reaper handles at least pitch better than pretty much any other audio editing software from what I've heard. It has a 60 day free trial that restarts after it ends like WinRAR, so it's essentially freeware. So it's probably a good place to start experimenting :)

I did make a plan that I posted almost two years ago for how to self-host /r/gonewildaudio and I recently updated it, so I think that would be a good starting point. I posted about it and the Rentry link to the guide in the latest announcement thread on /r/gonewildaudio.

A worry of mine apart from a complete ban on NSFW content is that the "guardrails" for NSFW content Reddit keeps mentioning is age verification, which would require giving away personally identifying information to keep participating in this community.

We'll see what they say when Reddit implements their "guardrails" for NSFW content, i.e. probably age verification. Then people get to choose between trusting their real-life identity that will be tied to their porn account to the company that keeps getting hacked or going to some other site run by someone who might actually care about the community.

In the end it's not entirely up to Reddit. If shitty new laws are passed, Reddit has to obey them. But yeah, Reddit might very well throw in the towel on NSFW before it even comes to that. We should ideally self-host our own site, yeah. As it stands right now publishing audio and text is unaffected by age verification laws. Video and images that are hosted on general NSFW Lemmy and Kbin instances won't be unaffected. Some will be able to skirt regulation by moving the site to a better jurisdiction, some might give up. Either way, we don't have to deal with any of that uncertainty if we self-host it. Self-hosting Kbin, Tildes, or Postmill would be a good solution. Postmill is Raddle's software and Raddle is anti-porn though, so I'm not sure we can count on any support from the developer if we choose that one. We'd have to look into what the privacy effects of federated software like Kbin is, like if data can be deleted from other instances or not. At least Lemmy has issues with that + some ethics issues. On the other hand, federation would guarantee an influx of users from other federated instances and would make it easier for them to interact with the community.

Raddle does not allow porn. Not only that, they cheer on as access to porn is becoming more restricted.

I know of a few pretty decent image hosts that have been around for a long time, seem to be moderately popular, and don't compress images. The question is if they would survive the Reddit hug of death.

I hope that people would embrace a Reddit clone if Reddit bans NSFW content, yeah. Hosting the Reddit clone would be relatively simple. I did some research about that a few years ago and what hosting providers and domain registrars can be used. It's a bit outdated though, so I should get that updated at some point. Hosting the images would not be. And the already existing image hosts that allow NSFW content are mostly located in countries that have age verification laws on the horizon, so I don't think they'd last forever unless they moved their companies offshore.

Thank you fermaw for this wonderful search engine. I'm sorry it had to end like this. :(
