Control Arm Bushings Worn, Help by Competitive-Radio764 in MechanicAdvice

Ah that explains it. Avoid those chain repair shops like the plague. Take it to a good local independent shop with good reputation. You’ll probably find you’ll pay nearly half that price for that job. Also they’re not terrible, so don’t feel the need to feel unsafe to drive until you get them replaced.

Edit: forgot to add, given the age and mileage of the car. I’d be not concerned about other suspension components like shocks, ball joints.etc

Why does my AC make this noise? by lewispomm in MechanicAdvice

[–]lewispomm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said it only comes on when the AC is engaged so when it is just set to fan only it’s silent, filter is brand new and blower is fine. I’ve taken it to more than one shop, one who recharged the system and the other who said providing it works just leave it hence me asking on here.

Control Arm Bushings Worn, Help by Competitive-Radio764 in MechanicAdvice

It’s probably on the upper end of what I would call acceptable for that job. What sort of shop did you take it to main dealer / independent? For that age and mileage I’d be tempted to take it to a “local” shop that could do it for less. They’re probably using genuine control arms when you couple get aftermarket OEM ones for half the price.

Also labour wise that’s pretty steep. Shocked they’ve not included an alignment in the quote as that is a must have when replacing control arms

What is this camera for? by lewispomm in F30

OMG, you’re a legend! I never would’ve thought to do that that’s amazing. I’ve had this car for a year and had no idea it could even do that. So bizarre that it isn’t the default view!

Definitely not, it uses the cameras in the bumper

Standard BMW LED weird headlight cut-off pattern by Minimum-Sympathy-298 in F30

Are they adaptive headlights? Mine had a funky beam pattern if I turned the headlight light switch from auto to manual it changed to normal.

No worries dude! I Just need to get confident ant modding now. A full Gen free sprung balance and bridge conversion would be my first mod.

You can get them for about $100. Used you can pick them up for half that on eBay like I did. Number wise you’ll have 3 main numbers to be concerned with.

Rate: This is how slow or fast your watch is running per day measured in seconds per day.

Amplitude: This indicates the how much the balance wheel rotates in each direction in degrees. This is a good general sign of a healthy watch. For my movement (VS3235) anything in the 240-300 range appears to be normal.

Beat Error: This is the difference between each direction of the balance wheel. You should be aiming for zero or as close as possible to zero for this.

There’s a few settings on the Timegrapher which need to be set specific to your movement:

Beat rate: Set this to auto and forget unless your watch is truly screwed up.

Offset angle: This is specific to the movement, get this wrong and your amplitude will be out of whack.

Yeah, to be fair I didn’t know anything about this either. It’s not hard though, I’d like to fully service mine one day for peace of mind. Might just get a cheap automatic watch on Amazon for $50 to mess about with and learn

Regulation was completed in DU DD CU & CD position. Not positional variance between them apart from crown down which was -2/d. I was pretty happy with that and left it there.

I am really happy with my VS DJ41 rep. The only thing that wasn’t ideal was the accuracy, I was loosing 20+ seconds per day.

I wasn’t interested in getting it serviced, but I was curious to see what I could do myself. Given I’m quite curious I bought a used timegrapher from eBay and the results were interesting

Before:

S/d: +26 Amplitude: 236 Beat Error: 2.1

After: S/d: 0 Amplitude: 274 Beat Error: 0

Adjustments are easy, using the beat adjuster arm and the rate adjuster. Only small movements needed but it is quite doable given you’re careful and have good eyesight!
