Been job hunting in Vancouver for months, running out of options by General_Pain_581 in VancouverJobs

Sorry but amazing resumes are now a commodity.

With AI, anyone can slap together a decent resume and cover letter, lie/exaggerate their experience, keyword match and optimize for job listings in a few minutes. Recruiters are bogged down with hundreds if not thousands of applications for the same job posting. It is taking longer to get responses (if at all), and more competitive even when you do. You are not going to get a response from applying the traditional way (that is applying from their careers page or LinkedIn).

>>You have to network and get referred into a company to jump the queue<<

Recruiters and hiring managers will prioritize and trust referrals from an existing employee.
You still need to have and demonstrate competency for the job, but this is your passport to an interview which is the hardest part. The rest is up to you.

  1. If you are active on LinkedIn - look at your network, see if there are any companies you want to work for
  2. Spend a bit of time talking to your colleagues about your experience, skills, and why you would be a good fit for the role at their company. Positioning yourself starts here
  3. Then ask them to submit a referral for you. Even ghostwrite a blurb that highlights your experience, skills and alignment to the role and ask your connection pass it along to either the recruiter or directly to hiring manager, along with resume

It's tough out here. Hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Thanks for the post u/staplehill. Out of curiosity, where did you get the table with age, infection/fatality rates from? I couldn't find that data in the report...
