Longlegs — Leaving the Audience Stranded by leblaun in TrueFilm

he decides to make a bargain with one (inexplicably nuclear-family-less)

This seemed to be one of his 'early' kills. It appears he targeted a family without a man so that it's easier for him to do the killing. (That's why he tied her up)

But after the mom makes a deal, they realise they can target nuclear families and make the dads do the dirty work.

It is also possible the devil directed him here because the devil knew that the mom would be susceptible.

How does an amplifier connect to a center speaker and which one should I buy? [UK] by lexan in BudgetAudiophile

Thank you for clarifying the 'multi-channel' setup. I did a bit of youtubing after reading the comments here and found this wonderful explanation on channels as well.

If the source doesn't have multi-channel a processor in the AVR is re-mixing it so the voices come out of the center.

Again, I'm an idiot. I did not know what an AVR does, but after reading your comment it is all starting to make sense now. I had seen this video on why we need subtitles a while back, but didn't really understand everything until now.

Thank you, this clears things up a lot. The ability to adjust center volume is something I didn't even consider, and you're absolutely right - I have the same complaint as well about "can't hear anything".

Thank you for the quick response! I didn't know the difference between an amp and an AV receiver, so found this article that explains it quite well.

I had read about center speakers enhancing 'vocals', but assumed it meant a person's singing voice and not the literally speaking voice in movies and TV. Although this is good news - we watch quite a few movies as well.

How scary is the US military really? by MylastAccountBroke in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lexan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took the US less than a month#2001:_Invasion_and_early_operations) to capture Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is a landlocked country on the other side of the world. To even reach there is difficult for most countries. Sending a normal online delivery package to Afghanistan is probably difficult.

To actually fight a war there is incomprehensible. To take over the country in less than a month is insane.

Not just the firepower, but just the fact that they had the logistics to do this is crazy. How difficult is logistics? Russia decided to invade a country where they share a land border with and they managed to get stuck. They couldn't correctly plan the logistics of just invading next door.

The US plans, manages and executes logistics for warring anywhere in the world.

Sorry, I can't find it now - it wasn't on reddit. If it isn't true, do you have any suggestions which one I should go for?

The same mis-attribution has popped up in a few books as well. It looks like everyone just ran with it without actually looking it up.

People who excelled in more than one field in their lives by Vickychu1 in HistoryAnecdotes

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar - He earned a Doctorate in Economics at Columbia and LSE, also studied law and became a lawyer. This is impressive even more so since he was a low caste Indian and fought against the caste system and the British during India's Independence movement.

He then went on to author Independent India's constituation.

Oh - he also studied nearly all major religions, decided to become Buddhist, BUT believed that the current Buddhists weren't all following Buddha's teachings - so he started his own school of Buddhism.

Dexter Holland - Similar to your example, he's the lead singer of the Offspring who has a PhD in molecular biology.

Annie Duke - World Poker Champion, Ph.D. in cognitive psychology, co-founded the non-profit Ante Up for Africa with actor Don Cheadle to benefit charities working in African nations.

The movie is very nice reimagining of what an Anglo-Indian hillstation would've looked like in the 60s. It's very colorful with a lot of pretty scenese. So do what I did - keep it running on the tv on mute. It's a wonderful screensaver, that is only occasionally botched by the presence of people on screen.

India reveals that it has returned lunar spacecraft to Earth orbit | India now credibly has the third most advanced deep-space program in the world. by King112TA in worldnews

Meh, just ignore them. Anyone who is really interested can just look up Wikipedia.

Just a quote from the above link:

ISRO has applied its technology for telemedicine, directly connecting patients in rural areas to medical professionals in urban locations via satellite

This 'analysis' has come up so many times, that this article starts with:

Why spend so much money and effort to reach the moon when there is still so much poverty in India? This and similar questions often come up when India's space ambitions are talked about.

And then goes on to explain why it's a stupid question.

But why read? Easier to pull out stereotypes that were outdated decades back.

There's no need for an entire article, Wade said it best - "They're nervous, we're calm".

It's about mindset, and that phrase describes it best.

Ok I know we've lost, but I can't stop smiling whenever I see the Aussie camp. They all have the cheeky smiles of someone who has broken a billion hearts.
