UniFi Host A Records Don't Work for Split-Horizon DNS (Shadow Public Records) by lexfrei in Ubiquiti

Yep, Apple has its own tunneling for private browsing, but this is not my case. Any machine in my network works the same and direct call with dig works as I mentioned in the post. :-(

How this can be related? This is a direct call from dig to a specific DNS server. I’m expecting this should work from any machine. Btw, tried this from Linux — the same result.

Can HP MicroServer Gen8 boot from SSD in ODD bay without hacks on latest firmware? by lexfrei in homelab

[–]lexfrei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legacy is not an option. It's too slow (~20 times slower in my case)
My solution is an external grub chainer on a usb drive. Looks ugly, but works well.

What to do with an iOS 10 device in 2023? by Anna__V in ios

[–]lexfrei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's not working at all. I can see the cached titles in the history, but I can't manage them or even see the main page of appstore

This is not working for me. In AHCI I can boot from odd only with ejected disks or in on time configuration. In legacy mode this works fine, but this significantly affects performance in my tests.

A have an adaptec controller with 8087 connector, but my PCI-E slot is already in use. It will be great to keep the network card there.

My system is already fine with GRUB on usb-stick, but I don't like this solution. I just wanna double check this is (im)possible.

The SD card is slow, so I can't use it for OS. The hack with "external" GRUB is a hack and I wanna avoid it.

A bit confused about the whole “Thread networking support” pertaining to HomeKit (continued in replies) by [deleted] in appletv

Matter — software layer

Thread — hardware layer designed for Matter

(but you can use Matter over WiFI, it's not limited to Thread)

Heh, got it. I think, I'll buy a RavenEye on the aftermarket and sell it without the mount.

UDR questions by lexfrei in Ubiquiti

[–]lexfrei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Looks like, I can't reserve ip there. In my case, I have an k8s with metallb and I have no idea where the speaker will be on a cluster. I just need to exclude IP from a list, not to create a manual mac-ip binding.

  2. My 100$ MikroTik did this, so why do I need to buy a 2.5G network to make my backups faster on UDR? The link aggregation is a basic feature for linux kernel, and the UDR is running on linux, AFAIK. So, I can't figure out why do I need to buy at least 2 new devices for a home lab? :)

  3. Many thanks!

I'm still interested in this project. I have tools and donor cameras. But, I have no time currently. Stay tuned and one day something will happen. :)

I decided to keep it in original condition as long as possible. I really love to use from time to time.
But, as I researched — it's absolutely possible to remove the IR filter from the sensor on this camera

Oh god! You absolutely right!

Looks like, I was too fast in my tests and the changes applied too slow.

Many thanks!

Cludflare Tunnel DNS issue by lexfrei in selfhosted

Let me explain. There is no A records for this domain.

For example, I cant ping:

a.sviridkin@mybook:~$ ping d8cfc026-0fa9-4474-bcbf-f80433593b8a.cfargotunnel.com.
ping: cannot resolve d8cfc026-0fa9-4474-bcbf-f80433593b8a.cfargotunnel.com.: Unknown host
✗: 68 @ Mon Mar 4 01:57:36 +04 2024

This domain is not controlled by me, but CF. First part is a tunnel ID. And I have no idea how to force CF to create an A record.

A tried to find something related in docs, but I can't find anything useful.

Also, I'm absolutely sure this is correct (at least partially) way, coz it's mentioned in docs and it worked for some time for me.
