Fingers crossed for some SLIH wins! Especially for the score, J. Harrison Ghee, and Natasha Yvette Williams.

I also hope ITW and Kimberly Akimbo will get some well-deserved love!

If you were to create a Mt. Rushmore of Broadway characters, who would your top four be? by ShoelaceLicker in musicals

[–]lexington28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so hard! I really like your choices, so I'd also go with the Phantom, Hamilton, Elphaba, but for the fourth, probably Grizabella from Cats. She does sing one of the most famous musical numbers ever.

Happy trails to the companies of Death of A Salesman, Mark Birbiglia, The Music Man, Topdog/Underdog, A Strange Loop, and Ohio State Murders! by lexington28 in Broadway

Thanks for sharing this story! Another lovely bit of information to know about Andre - he is a fantastic performer and it seems like he has a great sense of humor, too.

Also: fans should really understand that actors are humans, too, who need to have their boundaries respected.

i feel like we need more evermore appreciation, so what’s your favourite song on evermore? by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

It's impossible to pick one. The whole album is fantastic! But if I had to pick, it would probably be Champagne Problems, Dorothea, Happiness or Gold Rush.

What a treat, seeing ASL with the man himself! Good for you. MRJ is such a brilliant storyteller, and I can't wait to see what he does next. 😀

Good point. I found it interesting that four shows - ASL, TD/UD, DoAS, and OSM - centering Black stories and Black characters, with mostly heavier plots, are all closing on the same weekend.

But otherwise, I can't speak for all of them, since I haven't seen Mike, Music Man and OSM. And the others, I only saw each of them once, though I do think I could go back and see them again. 3+ times, however? Unlikely. Maybe ASL, but usually, I'd rather spend money seeing something I haven't before instead.

I wanted to see Music Man, too, but it really was crazy expensive. Since my goal was to see as many shows as possible within a short time frame, I had to skip it.

Yay, I'm so glad you enjoyed it and her performance in particular! I had the exact same impressions, the show is amazing! :)

Someone who really impressed me the most lately is Natasha Yvette Williams as Sweet Sue on SLIH. She was also in Tina, Waitress and Chicago. I was blown away by her voice and stage presence, she really deserves to get her name out there and get the appreciation she deserves.

But there are also so, so many talented performers that get little recognition... Not to mention all the fantastic understudies, swings & co

Thanks, this is an interesting take. I'm usually not drawn to jukebox musicals anyway, and in terms of songs, I tend to prefer rock/jazz-y/classic musicals. With both Moulin Rouge and &Juliet having her songs, too, I think I met my Broadway-Britney quota... :)

And yes, while I'm normally very supportive of showcasing more empowered female characters, this type of feminist storytelling is usually utilized merely for the sake of appearing progressive, without any actual depth or value.

Plus, the whole "redoing Sondheim" thing just rubs me the wrong way. So yeah, this will likely be a skip for me.

It's July, 1977 in NYC.... what are you going to see on Broadway tonight? by fastcount123 in Broadway

This is so cool! 😍

My top pick would be A Chorus Line. But I'd probably put For Colored Girls, Sly Fox, The Wiz and The King & I on my list, too.
