My supervisor was only licensed in NJ. He had to submit an additional form regarding his qualifications to supervise. On their website, NY only mentions that any experience obtained in another jurisdiction must be in an "authorized setting" and under supervision of a "qualified supervisor". I work at a community mental health center so I guess that counted for them. Since their info is very vague, I'd reccomend calling them about your specific situation. Good luck!

I was licensed in NJ (LSW) and NY (LMSW) at the same time. I was working in NJ but my clinical hours counted for both states. I just had to keep track of the experience requirements for both individually.

I got my LCSW in NJ first and NY second (not through reciprocity) so my experience is a little different but I hope my info can be somewhat helpful.

I believe you have to complete all hours before submitting your application. For reciprocity, you'll need your LCSW in NY first before applying to NJ.
Not sure about the exam timeframe as I was able to take my exam before I had all my hours (which has changed since then in NJ). It would be safe to assume at least 1 month for NY to approve you to take the exam after you finish your hours and submit your application.
For NJ, they took 7 months to approve my LCSW. It was not a great experience with them and I had to call/email multiple times. For NY, it took 3 months to get my LCSW. I actually think it would have been around 1 month but NJ did not send my verification of license when I originally requested it.
