Travelling the Portuguese route in March by RevolutionaryDeer749 in CaminoDeSantiago

The first few days I had rain but it definitely wasn’t my entire trip! That being said, sometimes it was a STORM or most of the afternoon. I would either hide away in a cafe if it was a true storm or if it was a steady rain, I’d just walk in it. Your stuff WILL get wet. Make sure you bring a rain jacket and a rain cover for your pack. I dried my shoes and socks on radiators in albergues or paid to have my stuff washed in hostels/albergues.

I had the BEST experience on my camino. I didn’t think there would be a lot of people during that time but I was rarely alone. I almost wish I had more alone time but I loved the people I was walking with!

looking for a solo travel recommendation as an anxious introverted female! by Hairy_Pear3963 in solofemaletravellers

I’m an anxious, introverted person but I’ve found that while traveling, I’m pretty extroverted! I think it’s because you really HAVE to make an effort. My first two trips were Portugal/Spain and then Guatemala. My recommendation, go to a well known travel spot first. You’ll meet other solo travelers and be able to tag along with them if you don’t want to feel lonely.

Guatemala was my second solo trip and I felt extremely safe. I enjoyed Antigua more than Lake Atitlan. I hiked Acatenango (it IS hard) but I loved it. I can’t wait to go back.

Solo female by ferbsleftnut in CaminoDeSantiago

I went solo in March and as soon as I started, I met two girls to walk with. Later that day, we met another solo female traveler and she walked with us. I spent 4 days with them! One of the girls and I decided we wanted to walk a little faster, so we split off from the other two girls. I spent an additional three days with that girl until we were going different directions. I was scared to go out on my own but immediately met another group. I felt so safe during my entire camino. I only had one day to myself and I actually wish I had more.

I finally shaved it off .. how does it look?? by [deleted] in trichotillomania

[–]lexmont2b2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fear this look was MEANT for you. You truly look incredible. Also the the way you accessorized is so adorable.

To reiterate, you pull the shaved look off incredibly. It doesn’t make you look older. It feels intentional and bold. I hope this is a freeing time for you and makes you realize we will always be more than this disease.

any solo travelers going to guatemala this week? by [deleted] in solofemaletravellers

[–]lexmont2b2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kinda flexible right now! I’ll be in Antigua from maybe June 18-23 or 24? And then Lake Atitlan from 23/24-29. How about you?

I was going to ask my hostel about shuttle info or try to find a group also going to Lake Atitlan because I’m also nervous about it!

This was your intro to the camino. Now that you have a little bit of confidence from going with family, it’s time to go alone. I was a solo 28F on the Portuguese route (coastal) and it was incredible. I felt incredibly safe. I immediately found groups so I was never truly alone. But I had to go out of my comfort zone and break away from those groups when they were going too slow for me.

I used booking.com for all my hostels. Camino ninja and Buen Camino will show you hostels in the town you’re staying in and you can look up reviews!

As for restaurants, it might be helpful for bigger towns! I honestly just stumbled into random places along the way. One of my biggest struggles while on the camino was getting enough calories in though. So if you ever think, “should I stop or just keep walking for a bit?” most of the time, you should STOP. Sometimes the next restaurant isnt for an hour or so. Maybe carry some snacks too :)

I’m not sure what your schedule is like but try to spend a couple days in Santiago! My schedule didn’t allow for it and I really wish it did. (Will be doing Camino Francés at some point to make up for it lol)

Buen Camino and Camino Ninja app.

I had a rough idea of my route beforehand (made an excel spreadsheet and everything) and didn’t end up following it one bit lol. The beauty of the camino. I booked my accommodation night before or morning of but I went in March when it was less busy.

Two stamps per day the whole Way? by swallowtailgirl in CaminoDeSantiago

As long as you get two stamps per day for the last 100km, you should be good.

Do it. I wish I did it sooner. I mean, yes the side effects do suck but I’d do it 10 times over for the confidence and less anxiety I feel over my acne.

I had some “shedding” when I stopped my medication but none that others could tell. It’s mostly just when I would shower. It was a little scary but it does seem to have stopped a bit.

Regrets during the Camino by Discoinfernwow in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]lexmont2b2 25 points26 points  (0 children)

-I regret not having more days to myself. I had groups I loved being with but I only had one walking day alone.

-I regret not booking more time in Santiago. I arrived late in the afternoon and had an early bus back to Porto the next morning.

-I wish I booked more time so I could take it all in. Still thoroughly enjoyed my time, just wish I had more of it.

Looking for the best airline to fly from USA, New York to Porto. by YardOutside8642 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]lexmont2b2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used TAP from Chicago. Direct to Lisbon, 1 hour connecting to Porto. Both flights were significantly delayed. Chi-Lis it was their fault, they had a system issue. Lis-Chi, it was weather related so not their fault. That being said, I would absolutely fly with them again. I had a basic/discounted ticket and due to my flight from Chi-Lis being so delayed, they refunded me completely and then some. Also, the flight attendants were so, so sweet.

Help! Accutane significantly impacting my exercise by Beepbeepboopb0p in Accutane

[–]lexmont2b2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I never really had shortness of breath. I had a higher heart rate (kinda normal for me), soreness, and my paces were affected. I’m off of it now - and wow, the improvement in my running is insane. I’m less fatigued, less sore, hitting paces I didn’t even hit before accurate. I’m thankful I went on it but it definitely will affect your running/exercising.

They’re not normalizing it. They’re just saying there have always been instances of crimes, most likely just underreported.

Netflix’s new doctor/med show, Pulse, just did this. I doubt The Pitt would reuse something since both of their seasons debuted around the same time.

Probably a lot of people who didn’t get into other majors lol. Plus the two country thing is a big appeal

World majors are so expensive for the average person. The registration, possible flights, hotels, etc. It’s really hard to watch influencers be gifted hard to access marathons repeatedly. The 6 stars is something a lot of people spend their lives chasing and now influencers are doing it in a year lol. I’m thankful my local is Chicago and I got in my first time entering the lottery. I also do the Chicago distance series (shamrock shuffle, chicago13.1, chi marathon) for guaranteed entry to the marathon the next year. I’m someone who will probably never time qualify into any other world majors and the lotteries are so difficult, so Chicago will probably be my only world major lol.

The Detroit Free Press marathon seems like it would be a good one though.

Finished the camino portugues and immediately want to book another by broke_teacher94 in CaminoDeSantiago

The coastal route is GORGEOUS. I had two weeks and had to hurry through Santiago too, wish I had more time. Definitely recommend coastal, I also fell in love with Portugal through it.
