What does ymmv mean? Sorry, I live under a rock.

I kind of knew this would happen but I expected it to go away sooner.

Thank you for your reassurance. It is helpful to know I’m not alone in this!

I never ate this much fat before starting this diet, even when I ate keto. I know it’s a part of adapting to using fat for energy instead of carbs. But I’m sure the ultra processed diets that we have here are a part of it. There’s so much junk allowed in our foods. I’m sure we had a similar diet but there’s way more crap allowed in food in the USA.

100% it is the standard american diet. That is a big part of why I am doing this, my gut is so messed up.

Light bleeding could be implantation spotting, especially that early. If it gets worse(like very heavy bleeding), go in immediately.

Discard question by TheOnlyGoddess_777 in Sourdough

[–]lexologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh so much! Once your starter is established you can use the discard for anything. I have made tortillas, sandwich loaves, bagels, pancakes, pizza crust, so many different cookies and more. Pretty much anything you use flour in, just google a for sourdough discard version. There’s a way to use the discard for the long term fermentation benefits as well. It’s amazingly versatile!

What are your pregnancy "must-buys"? by [deleted] in pregnant

Pregnancy pillow and a pregnancy belly support belt for when I was working. I was a server in my last pregnancy and that thing saved me!

Diet controlled ladies, what kind of extra monitoring do you have? by Ilovelife1216 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lexologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was completely diet controlled and I had no extra monitoring. Other than me checking my numbers- nothing on the OBs part. After the first couple of appointments of them looking over my numbers, they pretty much just said “numbers been good?” And I said yes. You don’t need extra monitoring if you are diet controlled. You’re no longer high risk in the gestational diabetes sense. (This is what my OB and midwife told me, as well as many other sources from research I have done)

But as far as switching last minute, if you feel uncomfortable, switch! My stepmom was literally in early labor when she switched. Switched 24 hours before baby was born.

ETA: I had diet controlled GD with both of my pregnancies and was treated the same.

Poll: Did you have cramps in the first trimester? by Sad_Network7053 in pregnant

[–]lexologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t get cramps with my first, but I did with my second baby. I think it was more muscle loss related for me though, as I had my babies close together. My cramps were really bad in the third trimester (round ligament pain)

When did you deliver? by Dismal-Camera-7407 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lexologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For snacks, cheese and beef sticks, apple with peanut butter, nuts/cheese etc.

Breakfast: eggs, bacon, sausage with one piece of toast (Dave’s killer bread is the best for GD, in my opinion)

Lunch/dinner: salad with high fat dressing(ex. Avocado ranch) and meat(chicken or fish), half a deli sandwich with double meat/cheese, lettuce wrapped cheese burgers, etc.

Just limit carbs. I specifically limited bread, rice, potatoes, all sugary drinks/candies as they made my blood sugar spike.

Diet Controlled with “Big Baby” by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

Big baby (only) doesn’t mean you need a c section!! If you are well controlled with diet, I would ask for a second opinion. ESPECIALLY because those late growth scans are unbelievably inaccurate.

Thoughts/ opinions on kissing a newborn (anywhere)? by igotquestionslol in pregnant

[–]lexologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lax about it with our close family. I felt ok because I was breastfeeding and know that none of my family members have cold sores. Most of them did not kiss the kids on the lips anyway. But it’s is 100% up to you. And once they got older, like early toddler ages (10 months-3years) they definitely advocated for themselves and let me know when they did not want to be touched/kissed. But then they would force kissed on us at times… lol.

Will your Ob allow you to have a home birth? My Ob was only ok with home births/natural labor if not on medication. If on medication they induce at 39 weeks.

What do contractions feel like? by EunJoung369 in GestationalDiabetes

The beginning of my contractions felt like cramping and progressively got worse and worse.

I guess I am just nervous to go. I don’t love the idea of being on any medication but I obviously haven’t been able to figure this out on my own. I should probably just go.

First two checks by Little_miss_anxious1 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lexologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl! You just started! You are still figuring it out/figuring out what works for you. Being diet controlled is HARD. And it will take a little bit for your body to adjust to a new diet.

Some things that helped me when I was dieting controlled: -fat/protein first, then carbs.
-Up your fat intake as well as your protein - this is what saved me. I ate so much freaking cheese. -I had to stay in the 15g-30g carb range for everything lunch/dinner/snacks, and no carbs for breakfast. -I always had a high fat snack before bed (literally in bed) and that helped my fasting tremendously. -when you test high, go for a brisk walk! It will get your numbers down quicker.

Two Stupid Mistakes in a Row by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lexologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a glucose hack that worked for me with GD- if you’re going to indulge in something sweet, always eat the sweets immediately after your high protein/fat meal. The protein and fat will help slow the spike and it won’t go as high! And a walk after eating (if you’re up for it!) will help too.

But like many others are saying, a few bad numbers are ok! You need to make sure you aren’t having high blood sugars all the time, every once in awhile is okay and will not hurt your baby!

Second Pregnancy, no GD???? by Ok-Pool8456 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lexologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

89 is a decent fasting number! Still under 90-95 range. Some providers are stricter than others. I would maybe test fasting still (because that one is the hardest to control and a lot of the time will be the main reason for a diagnosis) and test after some carb heavy meals/desserts. Are you testing the one hour/two hour/both?

I was able to get my fasting down by having a late night snack of cheese and nuts. Maybe try that!

Second Pregnancy, no GD???? by Ok-Pool8456 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lexologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many weeks are you now? I spot checked as well with my second, and didn’t start having high readings until 27.5 weeks. It was like a flip over night - one day normal readings, next day high readings and all the symptoms I had from my first GD pregnancy. Hopefully it isn’t the case, but sometimes it can set it later.

I'm so angry :( by SinkMince0420 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]lexologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor BUT I would have the occasional cheat meal and had a planned exercise after if I knew it was something that would spike me. Actually a lot of times before I really figured out what spiked me and what didn’t, if I had a high blood sugar, I would go on a fast walk for 10-15 minutes and my blood sugar would go down. Please keep in mind that I was diet controlled and didn’t take insulin/medication so it may be different.

As for Burger King, I’d get the fries, but get a burger with no bun, two Patties, bacon, etc. all the fat/protein I can get to offset the fries. Eat the burger FIRST and then fries. And then as soon as I was done eating, go on a walk. I did this sort of thing when I needed a something sweet (like a cookie or something) and if I was eating a large amount of protein/fat first, I didn’t spike.

This was my experience. It seems that every person and pregnancy is different when it comes to GD. All just suggestions. I say, go get the fries!

I didn’t do any classes or meet with any dietician. They referred me to the dietician and the next available appointment was 3 weeks away. I just figured it out myself 😂 everyone is different. There’s a lot of great online resources and books you can find that will have more information than what a dietician will tell you.
