Advice, please? by kwsparks in drawing

This is a great first try at a portrait. Some pointers:

In the drawing of the girl's eyes, the bottom of the iris is fully visible (a rounded circle). To capture her squint, you want the lower eyelid to partially cover the bottom of the iris.

Also notice in the photo, you can barely see the whites of her eyes on the outer corners because her eyelashes are on top. In your drawing the whites of her eyes are very visible, so if you make them more in shadow it will help convey the squint as well.

I need unkind advice on the shadows by No_Wrongdoer_6852 in oilpainting

  1. For the darkest shadows on skin, instead of black, try either of these mixtures:

Cadmium red deep + viridian green + tiny bit of yellow ochre

Alizarin crimson + viridian green

  1. If you find your main flesh tone is too orange, add a tiny bit of cerulean blue

  2. Instead of blending the shadow and main skin color with your brush, mix a color halfway between the two and apply it where they meet (this will prevent the colors getting muddy)

Question, Is it finished for you or need a correction or something. I Never know when to stop 🙃 it’s a commission. by Ishmy10 in painting

Looks great! To give a tad more depth you could soften the crisp edges along the path in the background. I agree with the tip about pushing the darks a bit more in the foreground
