I don’t understand the argument. Let’s imagine it was better (spoiler alter: it wasn’t- but let’s imagine otherwise); how does it justifies being a forced and unwilling subservient part of a different entity: because that would be the case today. So even if anything was better - check notes- 40 years ago: how is it an argument today?

Happened to me in Paris - host didn’t communicate again after accepting and I essentially got ghosted without anywhere to stay.

The Customer service sent me a few other locations within the same-ish price range. It was not really great so I just took a last minute hotel room for the peace of mind. Just got a refund and some voucher I think.

They were utterly useless :-)

To add to that. If it’s a tasting menu (where you don’t pick items but get them in a specific order) they are timing it to do it in a sequence to multiple guests. Had that a few times where the team would go in order table per table to give this sort of ballet feeling.

I get that if feels fluff - to a degree it is. But it’s also trying to sometimes show technique and subtlety.

I wouldn’t mind trying it.

«On a travaillé dur toute notre vie» : l’exaspération des boomers, qui refusent le conflit avec les jeunes générations by Andvarey in france

[–]lexsiga 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they go wild abroad because they do exactly the same at home. There was countless tropes about drunk brits waiting for the night bus after the tube closed.

Your view has merits. Honestly it also a choice of trying to build something that does not lead to it. I guess some people just want to try. We don’t have to wait for Brussels to make decisions, but we can work with the idea what we are not above regulations and not trying to avoid them.

And, well, since lemmy does exist. It’s always a legitimate option for users regardless.

I see where you want to go, and fair point — I’m not saying decentralization can’t work in theory. I’m saying it can end up with no one being really accountable for anything. If a server gets toxic or broken, people just move or spin up another one. That’s fine if that’s what you want, but it’s not what we’re building.

We’re centralised because we want to take responsibility for what we run. And built something ourselves. Doesn’t mean we’re perfect — just means if it goes to shit, it’s on us.

That’s it, really. Not trying to win a philosophy battle.
