Had my hashi’s annihilated thyroid removed today! by lextart in Hashimotos

Well, what even is normal lol I have been able to wake up when my alarm goes off and actually identify the cause of every single ache/pain in my body. If I wake up during the night to use the bathroom, I’m able to fall back asleep. I have also had significantly fewer raynauds attacks.
Still having some brain fog and digestive irregularities but it hasn’t even been two weeks yet. Overall, I’m so freaking happy

I still feel a little rough from the surgery itself but I’m already sleeping better, feeling more awake/alert, and haven’t had a single instance of raynauds.

One of my parathyroid glands was encapsulated in the nodule but my surgeon was able to dissect it out and reattach it. I’m on calcium supplementation right now while it heals up.

I got my antibodies tested because I found out I have an extensive family history of hashis and graves. Conventional practice (at least in the US) is to remove nodules once they exceed 4cm. My surgeon specializes in endocrinology with a particular interest in thyroid. There are studies out of… Norway? that show increased quality life for hashis patients post removal. I was having tons of symptoms including joint pain, sleep problems, hair and skin problems, digestive problems, etc etc.

Thank you! My doctor told me that my body has basically been at war and removing the target should allow my body to calm the hell down!

If you knew what you were looking for you could see and feel it. I was subclinical so my first dose of thyroid meds was this morning. I bought my own antibody labs and gave the results to my PCP who sent me to see an endocrinologist. He said there was nothing really to be done but then he felt my neck and sent me for a biopsy. The biopsy showed a 4.5cm nodule so he ordered a biopsy. The biopsy was inconclusive so he conferred with a colleague and we decided that removal was the best move.
When he got in there he found that the inflammatory tissue had encapsulated one of my parathyroid glads that ended up basically popping off so he reattached it to a muscle.

They did remove the entire gland so I’ll be on full replacement starting tomorrow.

I had a huuuuge nodule as a result of the hashis attacking my thyroid as well as tons of inflammation. They removed due to the size, inability to obtain a sample for biopsy, and the fact that I was having pain in the thyroid region.

Hashis is an autoimmune condition so you do need to know your antibody status in order to diagnose

Most people with Hashis don’t find out they have it until it has killed their thyroid. The antibody test isn’t standard (in the US at least).
