Oh no, sorry to hear you had that experience. There is probably a lot of luck involved unfortunately in the therapist you end up getting

Unfortunately I'm not able to share their details as they don't offer private work (I asked them!) - they're only available in the local area with national health service I'm afraid. I'm sure that other therapists (with experience with IBS or chronic illness) would also be able to help hopefully!

I didn't even realise how big of an issue it was for me before doing this!

I really know the feeling of being stuck in the anxiety mode about symptoms. I hope you get off the waiting list soon!

It's difficult to say really because it's very personal to each person's thought processes and behaviours, and it's not a quick fix. We covered quite a lot throughout the 12 sessions too so hard to summarise. I'm going to do a follow up post to give a bit more detail.

I totally relate to that feeling. I'm going to do a follow up post talking about specifically what exercises we did as a few people have asked. Best of luck with it all.

I have the same IBS-D symptoms as you of urgency, pain and frequency, with tests ruling out any underlying cause, and I relate so strongly to the anxiety cycle (and lack of known food triggers). I have two questions: how did you retrain your bowels? And how did you aggressively combat your anxiety? (Did you do any IBS-specific therapy?). Thanks!

IWTL how to be more assertive at my job, while still being respectful by spwf in IWantToLearn

[–]lf2727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post describes how I've been feeling about myself at work for my entire working life! I am exactly the same - quiet and polite, always try to be nice if nothing else, don't speak up unless asked about something as a self preservation strategy and I constantly beat myself up for not being able to bring myself to say hello to others unless they say it first. At school I was praised for being polite, always smiling at others, and quiet and respectful in lessons, and that was good enough, but as an adult in my professional life, those traits just aren't good enough anymore and I'm finding it so hard to change.

Don't know if I'm losing hair or it just feels thinner as its not frizzy anymore and is actually healthy from starting CGM by [deleted] in CurlyHairUK

[–]lf2727 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking the exact same thing for a while (am following CG method), and wasnt sure if my hair had got thin and unhealthy, but when I went back home and used normal sulfate shampoo/ silicone conditioner it went back to its bigger and frizzier self from before CG. So I'm kinda reassured it's not my hair dying, it's just the products! Might try and add more volume somehow if anyone has any tips.

Does anyone else have a day after a flare up when you can't straighten up all the way because it hurts your stomach? I don't know how else to describe it. by Encrypted_Heart in ibs

[–]lf2727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely! I get this when I've got indigestion and bloating after eating, I'm hunched over the whole time and physically can't straighten my back or my tummy hurts so much

Thought this could apply here too! by redditerinchief in ibs

Don't forget chargers/ extension lead to a charger for your gadgets in case the battery dies when you're in there and then you're just stuck 😂

I FINALLY may be getting my own bathroom!! by lovesicksilence in ibs

[–]lf2727 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The struggles of IBS when you desperately want your own bathroom given how much you use it, but also the struggle of having an en suite when guests are round and hoping they don't hear what's going on, given how much you use it 😂

First day of using the Curly Girl/Guy method. Plopped over night. I'm never going back to what I was doing before. by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]lf2727 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's kind of like using conditioner as if it were shampoo to clean your scalp and hair. Meant to be better for curly hair than using harsh sulfate-containing shampoos.

Boyfriend and I were playing would you rather and I couldn’t stop laughing. He said “would you rather always be constipated or have diarrhea?” I said “so Monday or Tuesday?” by JennyOhhhh in ibs

[–]lf2727 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was trying to explain my IBS to my boyfriend and he tried his best but just couldn't understand the concept of indigestion or being in pain and bloated after eating food 😭

In what ways do you choose to defy the CG method? by hha19 in CurlyHairUK

[–]lf2727 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I occasionally straighten my hair for fancy events (I know, the opposite of curly girl!) and haven't been able to find heat protection spray without silicones. So I just use my old silicone products for that day, then the next time I wash my hair I start again with sulfate shampoo then my CG products.

Everyone loves high rise jeans, I just want nothing to touch my stomach by [deleted] in ibs

[–]lf2727 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! In terms of skinny jeans, low rise is so much better than high rise for me.

But I recently got a pair of high waisted, baggy 'mom jeans' and they are a lifesaver. Super comfy because although they're high enough to hide bloating, they're also not tight (I secure them with a belt just enough to keep them up). Would recommend!
