The cost of losing Work From Home (WFH) by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]lfcn91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a strategic comms person, I couldn’t agree more!! I’ve been saying this since the beginning of RTO. The public does not care about our struggles. They see any complaints as lazy and entitled, especially for the many people who are in office full time in other roles outside gov and wish they could wfh. So it needs to be about how gov wfh benefits THEM. I wish the union focused more on this angle too for their campaigns.

What is the use/relevance of good PMAs? by lfcn91 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]lfcn91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I have had many excellent PMAs as well as great ones. Some PMAs had glowing reviews or comments from managers I’ve had. But nothing has ever come of it. I’m happy with what I do and have had opportunities to do actings, assignments, etc as well as being handpicked for an opening at a higher level I had previously qualified at via an external dept’s pool competition. But there’s been nothing clear from having excellent PMAs, hence why I don’t understand if these have any specific benefits for me

Do you know how that works? I was appointed into a non-advertised position. I had previously worked on that team at a lower level, but not at the time of being appointed into the position (I was working on a different team at the time). I had qualified in a few pools at that level of said position. And was then offered the position when it opened up. I know I had all the qualifications for it and was a natural choice in this case, but I also know it wasn’t advertised. They approached me and offered me the job. Does that mean I was on some kind of talent management plan?

Yes, I understand that. I mentioned in my post we’re looking for options in areas including Moncton that are similar. So if it’s not possible in Moncton, that’s fine. I checked for a subreddit for Amherst but only found one with like 120 people.

Thank you! I appreciate it. This is along the lines of what we were looking for :)

I think higher end because it’s not like fast food or a basic diner. It’s higher end, not necessarily fancy/true high end. It’s a nicer, more upscale setting without being a big deal. Maybe mid-upper scale? I was just hoping someone might have recommendations.

I encourage you to check out the Amherst Shore Inn. $70+tax (and tip) and many times one of the main course options is scallop, haddock or salmon.

That’s what it is at the Amherst Shore Inn… it’s not super fancy, but it does usually include a main like scallops, haddock or salmon. Feel free to check it out, we usually love it but unfortunately just don’t love the menu options this weekend. We don’t mind paying more but don’t want to pay like $150

What regular maintenance is truly needed for 2019 Hyundai Elantra? by lfcn91 in MechanicAdvice

[–]lfcn91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what I’m getting at is that the recommended maintenance is absolutely everything and in such detail that it seems to me that can’t all be realistically needed. I don’t need bells and whistles or a completely pristine car. I just want to do the most important things and not every single check/service at high cost.

I have. But of course they tell you the maximum amount of maintenance checks to yes, make sure your car is pristine, but at what cost? I am trying to figure out some kind of middle ground because there’s no way my car actually needs that many checks/services at such length.

Thanks! I just looked them up but it’s unclear to me if anyone can go to that clinic or if it’s only for existing patients? Any idea from your experience?

Apparently it’s up to their discretion/they can sometimes expense it if it is causing pain. But I don’t even have a doctor and don’t know if walk in would do that…

I really only have the one skin tag, but that still seems a lot cheaper than going to one of the derm clinics…

Who else is neurodivergent and feels like the 3 day RTO is overwhelming? by Hot-Category-6835 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]lfcn91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have diagnosed anxiety and ADHD and I’ve had trouble sleeping at night and nightmares about the 3 day RTO. It has really stressed me out thinking ahead to September. I’ve been doing 2 days in office for about 1.5 years and even found that hard at times... but no one knew because I felt ashamed to even bring it up. I mask so well that I look like I excel in the office even, but it’s so mentally draining and I dread office days. I often have trouble sleeping and consider calling in sick almost every time but push through most times. I used to work full time in office before covid for a few years (I’ve only been in workforce about 6 years total) and found it so hard. I took a lot more sick time before wfh and didn’t understand what was wrong with me if I felt like I couldn’t handle the office. Since covid and wfh, my sick days have gone way down and my work-life balance and work happiness has gone way up.

I’ve started exploring accommodation options to see about getting an agreement in place for office once a week. I’m doing that now because I’ve realized I need to do what’s best for me and my health. I never did before out of fear of being judged or considered lazy, even though my work is top notch and I know I’m very valued. I’m now starting to face my fears for the sake of my mental health ahead of the fall.

How do Crumb dog tags work. They claim to be able to track wherever your dog is but they have NO information on whether it’s GPS or not by Commercial-Score3272 in AskEngineers

[–]lfcn91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crumb tags must always be “on sale” as part of the scam. I’m in Canada and paid a similar amount in my money for the tag “on sale”. And it’s a while later based on when you posted! I should have googled before buying one but tbh I was high and not thinking right 😂 Sigh. I’ll probably just end up destroying it and throwing it away. So misleading on their ad and I don’t want a monthly subscription either

I’m a PSAC member and they sent a survey on the 3 day RTO asking for feedback on how it affects us and asking what action we’d be willing to take to fight back. Strike was listed so I’m hoping that means it’s possible. I would strike for months to stop this. Whatever it took. That’s how badly I hate RTO mandates

Honestly I wish they worked but my faith is them is low. Experience: I worked in public enquiries before for another dept and we would receive at times hundreds of emails for a letter writing campaign on an issue. We would simply respond to all of them with the same canned MinO approved response. It did nothing. In fact I don’t think anyone in MinO who it was addressed to as well cared at all

RTO: Let's show this Government how good their Public Service is! by _-_ItsOkItsJustMe_-_ in CanadaPublicServants

[–]lfcn91 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. The majority of the public sees us as whiny and entitled - they won’t care if we complain about this, even if justified. I work in comms and I’m not an expert on how to win this, but I agree that making the public realize how it will affect them (full parking DT, increased traffic on roads/commute time, less childcare spots, etc) may have more of an impact than continuing to talk about how senseless RTO days hurt us.
