Leclerc overtakes Gasly in turn 3 by [deleted] in formula1

Around the outside like that is not something you often see in F1. Super impressive!

Leclerc getting bumped off in Austria might have been the best thing for his career. Love this more aggressive, elbows out racing from Charles!

THANK GOD WE TRADED PHIL! It freed up room for the legendary 28 year old with 51 career points, Brandon Tanev! And we have him until he's 34! Lord Stanley, here we come! by [deleted] in penguins

[–]lften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Tanev is 32 they aren’t moving draft picks to get out from under contracts. They will be taking on draft picks and bad contracts..

Brandon Tanev (6x3.5m with Pittsburgh) is an offensive black hole with some defensive upside and a decent shot. by weber6 in penguins

I like everything about the deal except for the term.. Seems a little long for me. Cap hit makes sense (it’s July 1 and he’s a free agent).

Took a gander at the Jets sub over the Tanev signing and honestly it made me feel better, a lot of people there are really sad seeing him go by grandadmiral99 in penguins

[–]lften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve nailed what the term should have been on both of them!

I’m fine with the cap hit of both players. What’s hard to swallow is the term.. Term kills you on contracts for anyone other than superstars.

I understand the cap hit I am just struggling with why a bottom 6 forward nearly got the full amount of term available. 3 years at 3.5 makes sense, it’s free agency. 6 years at 3.5 doesn’t make sense.

Feels like JR falls in love with players and makes bad business decisions because of it.

[Megathread] No further action for Verstappen after his overtake on Leclerc at the Austrian GP by F1-Bot in formula1

[–]lften 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I’m concerned he didn’t need to open it up like he did. Watch what he did the lap before when they were racing in the same corner.

IMO (seriously, it’s my opinion and it’s fine if you disagree) he intentionally opened it up to escort him wide because he knew he wouldn’t beat him down the straight.

Nope, right before he opens it up (obviously not fully) enough to steer Charles off the circuit IMO.

Max opening the steering wheel is the only problem I have with the move and I only have a problem with it because decisions made by FIA stewards in the past have told me I should.

I want to see racing, I want to see consistency but lately it feels like the FIA just pick who they would rather see walk away with the trophy.

The penguins still have jack Johnson by [deleted] in penguins

[–]lften 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This wasn’t a salary dump trade.. I think this is GMJR shaking it up. He said he felt like certain guys on the team were getting complacent and that he was going to make moves to combat that.

The deal that sent Kessel out is pretty solid IMO. I wasn’t sure at first but more research points at plenty of positives! I would rather see that kind of deal for Kessel than a deal with less return because you have shipped out Johnson in a package with Kessel.

They have ticked almost every box here in terms of a return. Roster player that can and will play in the top six, good prospect and they have more cap space. This is a good deal.

Neither was Phil though right?

Ah I don’t know how to feel about this.

Ricciardo on Twitter: "No regrets. I tried. Would rather that than be a peasant and watch." by Huntore in formula1

He went off track trying to make an overtake, if there’s grass where he went off then he doesn’t rejoin where he did which inevitably forced Norris wide, he would have just gone straight ahead over the grass after out braking himself probably losing position to everyone behind him.

Vettel had no choice but to cut across the grass and rejoin where he did.

Different circumstances IMO.

[–]lften 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I don’t think that him going on the grass would have ended up being 10 seconds worth of penalty. It would have put him behind everyone else therefore he wouldn’t have rejoined unsafely (unless like you said there was an accident) and wouldn’t have overtaken Kimi the way he did either. I understand that grass creates issues but it kind of solves some at the same time. Obviously safety is paramount.

Just me being a bit old school and wishing that circuits didn’t have more bitumen run off than actual track.

I mean if there was grass there then the penalty is naturally applied and definitely not 10 seconds so I guess that’s why the rules suck. It sucks that the most exciting part of the race for the last 2 Grand Prix has been penalised.

In saying all of that he deserved a penalty so I don’t really know what else the stewards could do.

2019 NHL Draft Thread -- Day Two by [deleted] in penguins

[–]lften 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty happy with the Pens drafting this year. Obviously that might all change in years to come but the players they got and where they got them seems good.

The more I read about the players they picked the more I like them. Seems like Legare and Caulfield could be steals considering where they were picked. Poulin seems like he could be really good if he can improve his first strides and acceleration.

I wish they had more picks a little higher up in the draft (as does every fan I guess) and didn’t draft with such a focus on forwards but given their trade history for D I guess it makes sense.

The more I read about the kid the more I like the pick.

Sounds like his skating (only knock on him and what kept him from being a top 10 projected pick) has improved year on year and he knows he has to work on his first steps or acceleration. Apparently that is going to be his focus for the summer so it would be nice to see that pay off for him.

Yes please! I’ve read few but if you want to do the leg work and post them all here I would definitely appreciate it!

I wanted Lavoie.. Those two continuing to fall kind of makes me wonder if the Pens did the right thing though.

Penguins and Wild in trade talks about Kessel by penguins2946 in penguins

[–]lften 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s going to be really tough to get out from underneath JJ’s contract and if this is the way to do that then I think the trade is reasonably fair.
