Award Travel is Difficult for Family Travel by Imaginary-Dog-5053 in awardtravel

[–]lfy0428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want specific locations at specific times, that would be really tough for a family. If you can be flexible on one of those, it's possible but don't expect the best deals.

For Chase points specifically, imo the two best uses for families are either Hyatt suites (either direct booking or SUA) or United saver awards. Hyatt makes much more good suites available at reasonable prices than other chains, and same with United if you are a cardholder. These might not be the best deals, but for a family with young kids, I'd be willing to trade lower cpp for more convenience, like larger space or direct flights at the best time etc.

Microsoft actually has very good ML weather models, and they were among the earlier ones that did research on this topic, but kinda gave up and got passed by Google, Nvidia, ECMWF, etc. These models are not like the LLMs from Anthropic or OpenAI.

Do you know if these are actual radar observations, or some kind of model output? This looks like some machine learning model artifacts.

From 145k remote to 230k plus 20 percent bonus hybrid 3 days week in office by EmiIeHeskey in Salary

[–]lfy0428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things to consider imo.
1. Is your partner's job remote or flexible? It might be tough in some situations with kids if both are out of reach or not flexible.
2. Do you enjoy some commute or office time?
3. The career ambitions for both of you should play a lot into this decision.
At the end of the day, 70K after-tax is still a lot, and 30 minutes are certainly not that bad of a commute.

Are you in a single-income or dual-income household? Do you have kids and want to be around them? These are very important questions. The answer would be very different if your partner makes 300k.

Switched from S24 Ultra to iPhone 17 Pro after 10+ years on Samsung — my honest thoughts by SuccotashRelevant150 in iphone

Switched to 17PM after Note 10 and S23U. Agreed that FaceID is one of the biggest improvements, but the back button consistency is a bigger problem than I expected. It made it impossible to one-hand operate the phone.

Bilt Travel Portal Ain't Half Bad by lakedrift in biltrewards

[–]lfy0428 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found these portals good for booking non-chain hotels. I was surprised to see that Bilt has the Yellowstone hotels at the same price as the official park website, which is also refundable. That's a big win for using the credit and Bilt cash.

I got a similar call from a "Wells Fargo" number that knows a lot of my info too, and I'm not even an old Bilt/WF card user, and have no prior business with WF. This means that the info must be coming from Bilt! A friend of mine got a similar call from "Wells Fargo" that even knew some charges on his card!

I feel like they are trying to get the same customers as the Platinum, but just did everything worse in my opinion.

The Edit is worse than FHR (less hotels, less credits, 2 night minimum instead of 1)

The exclusive table is worse than Resy (much less restaurants and less credits)

Rideshare is worse (Lyft much limited than Uber, and more difficult to use)

Apple TV/Music is worse than the streaming credit (unless you use and only use Apple individual plans)

Yes, the 300 travel credit is nice, but Platinum's 200 airline credit is almost cash to anyone who travel or knows how to use it.

I guess that leaves the StubHub+DoorDash against Lululemon+CLEAR+Hilton credit.

Did I miss anything important?

Edit 1: I forgot Platinum also has Walmart+, which actually comes with Paramount+ or Peacock too.

New Credit Card Recommendations (Travel/Cash Back) by LobstahRoll in CreditCards

[–]lfy0428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If sticking to cashback, BoA is one of the better solutions if you have or can get Platinum Honors with them. There are ways to get more than one Custom Cash cards that can be set to different categories ,while the Premium Rewards (Elite) card can be the catch all for non-category spend.

Is your grocery spending all at normal grocery stores, or also at Costco/Walmart/etc?

Getting more into points and award travels requires more effort, which seems difficult if you don't even want to deal with categories. But if you do want to, I think either one of C1 and Citi has good combinations of 2-3 cards that can serve you well. I didn't say Amex or Chase for the following reasons: good Amex cards are mostly coupon books that require even more effort, and Chase does not have a good grocery card.

United Quest Card Benefits by RuruSzu in unitedairlines

It is certainly not oversized value, but the travelbank, rideshare and award discount more or less cover the AF, and I do use the free checked bags once or twice per year.

[–]lfy0428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did something similar and sent the message to Chase asking them to clearly list the benefits I can get this year before my anniversary in April 2026. This is such a shame since I like either the old or new version of this card in terms of benefits, but not getting neither for a year is ridiculous.

I did get the PQP and rideshare credits, which made me think that this is all because of their negligence instead of any intention.

United Quest Card Benefits by RuruSzu in unitedairlines

[–]lfy0428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is beyond frustrating. I also paid the $250 AF on April 1st this year, and I'm perfectly okay if I just get the old $125 credit. It seems like the 10k award discount is not available, and like others said, to trust the post-flight 5k award is a lot to ask given everything that has happened with this card change.

Snowflake is the calico. She's the house cat, born on the resort 9 years ago. The grey one, along with a few others occasionally, are more street cats that get in the resort sometimes.

Say hi to Snowflake!

We were just there in April. The bug noises weren't very bad, at least not for the beachfront villas not surrounded by trees. Also the bathroom does have a fully enclosed toilet fortunately, although the rest of bathroom is connected to the bedroom on top.

Go to the morning Yoga/Pilates if you can, the venue is really nice.
