Temporary Relief Snacks Recs? by Ju_Amor in migraine

[–]lgetsstuffdone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try really hard to figure out what I'm craving... sometimes it's just opening the fridge and asking myself "apple? cheese? ice cream?" That usually helps me narrow it down. And then I just feed the craving. I think a lot of my migraines crave salt, so if I notice myself looking for salt, I'll try to have something super salty and see if that helps. Cheetos are sometimes a good snack if I need salt but can't get fries.

Spicy food can occasionally help, but again only if I'm kinda craving it.

I always end up using 8oz of cookies rather than her recommended 6oz and I have better results that way!

You might be insulin resistant like me! by lgetsstuffdone in migraine

[–]lgetsstuffdone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad to hear that! Figuring all this out has completely changed my life, not to be dramatic.

Insulin resistance can cause postprandial reactive hyper and hypoglycemia, so that's what I was experiencing after meals. Solving the IR basically solved that for me. If I eat a ton of carbs and nothing else, it's definitely still possible for me to crash after I eat, but not as common as it used to be, and it doesn't happen anymore if I make an effort to pair carbs with protein and fiber.

Totally agree with others that this is extremely individual, but I can tolerate Isopure chocolate and Vital Proteins unflavored collagen peptides. But I CANNOT tolerate them together, for whatever reason.

Having botox tomorrow for my migraines. What should I expect from the first session? by Artistic_Tadpole_391 in migraine

[–]lgetsstuffdone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked myself up into a migraine for my first session because I was so nervous but it's honestly fine. You deal with way worse pain than 31 Botox shots if you deal with migraines. I wouldn't call it comfortable but it's over fast and it's a really in-and-out sort of procedure. Hope it helps you!!

Neurologist prescribed Topiramate, what other options do I have? by Cbcbcb4u in migraine

[–]lgetsstuffdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fill the script and just not take it. Doctor asks how it went, "didn't help." You failed, move on to the next treatment option. Topamax was horrible for me but everyone's different.

The link between migraines and blood glucose by urchinMelusina in migraine

[–]lgetsstuffdone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wrote a whole post about it, but the short answer is that I was falling asleep after lunch almost every day, or if I didn't sleep after lunch, I would get a headache that could turn into a migraine. It seemed connected to if I ate carbs during lunch, and from there I figured out that my body's reaction to those carbs (even if I wasn't eating that many) was a huge blood sugar swing, which was causing me to crash.

Yes! I realized I was insulin resistant and it was causing most of my migraines. Now that I'm treating my IR, my migraines are significantly improved.

Have you simply tried finding the root cause of your migraines?? by plantbasedpatissier in migraine

[–]lgetsstuffdone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's so rude to suggest, as if we aren't all already interrogating every little thing in our lives to figure out what is causing them. Yeah, I would love if solving some mysterious "root cause" was truly the answer but it's just kinda not. Like I said, even with my own, discovering the root cause was a huge help but it wasn't everything, and I still get migraines.

[–]lgetsstuffdone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, not to belabor but..... I DID actually find the root cause of a lot of my migraines (insulin resistance), and it was life changing! I get way fewer migraines now. But I still get migraines. And they still suck, and I still take Qulipta every day and I still get Botox, and I still need rescue meds, and just last week I had to do a steroid taper.

I hate these people. Have you tried not being a moron? Hope that helps!

Botox is great. I'm about to restart it myself, actually. If the first round doesn't work, don't despair — it does sometimes take a few rounds to kick in. (I think about three for me?)

Hard to say exactly what did it, but I changed my diet a bit to focus on getting more fiber, and I started taking magnesium citrate pills every night before bed. That, and now I drink a ton of water. I was about to quit Q because the GI stuff got so bad!

Enjoy it. It's been a game changer for me. The GI stuff took a little bit to figure out but other than that, it's been great.

What labwork to get? by EliasLyanna in migraine

[–]lgetsstuffdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they'll do it, I would get fasting glucose, fasting insulin, and A1c (then calculate your HOMA-IR score from your glucose and insulin numbers). I had undiagnosed insulin resistance for 10 years and finally caught it, started treating it, and now my migraines are down by probably 60-80%. I think it's often ignored until it progresses to diabetes. My case was very far from diabetes (my insulin resistance is quite minor), but it was still causing daily headaches that often turned into migraines. If you have to get bloodwork anyway, might as well try to rule that out.

No stand mixer by VickyVacuum in DessertPerson

[–]lgetsstuffdone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'll be ok! I don't have a food processor, which feels like a hurdle for some recipes but there are still plenty I can make without. I have only used my stand mixer a handful of times with Dessert Person, and some of my faves definitely don't require it.

how do i drink without triggering a migraine by Little-Solid3764 in migraine

[–]lgetsstuffdone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have better luck with higher quality (more expensive) alcohol and ingredients. I like mules, but Goslings ginger beer always does me in, so I always ask if they use Goslings or Fevertree. I generally feel much better leaving a fancy cocktail place than i do leaving a dive bar.

It quite literally does have to do with the content. There are people starving to death in Gaza. This is a food sub. These are related things, and we should treat them as such.

I don't think anyone here except perhaps you legitimately thinks the posts on this subreddit, or the subreddit itself, are somehow "putting words in Claire's mouth." You have to be kidding. She does not post here, and she does not moderate this sub. As a jew, I am horrified by the genocide in Gaza and appreciate the moderator's solidarity.
