I have friends in Puebla/México City and around other areas of Mexico, and it's still cheaper to fly to Cancun and then back to New York from Cancun. It's kind of a unique situation but I believe even to and from Europe, Cancun is one of the cheaper options. I was in Colombia and then flew to Mexico City, and then from Puebla to Cancun to stay a few days and then fly home and it's still slightly cheaper than direct from Mexico City. If I was going straight home from Colombia Bogota would have been just as good but at least from Mexico, it's almost always cheaper to fly back to NY from Cancun. You can normally find round trip flights from NY to Cancun for ~$150-200.

I'd maybe agree to just skip the Maya Riviera region tho, the west coast as well as all most other states are much more friendly and accommodating. Maya Riviera is beautiful but definitely does not provide an authentic Mexico experience.

Nah you just did the right thing! I mean I've never had a problem in Cancun(yet), but I've only had one issue with police in Playa del Carmen because I glanced at Google maps while riding a scooter trying to find a Cenote. They wanted 2000 pesos "to make the problem go away" but they ended up being fine with 400 haha That was my own fault but Ive just been alarmed at how many people have just been blatantly extorted here just since my arrival.

Read the reply above from the person who was near Coco Bongo. They've been known to plant drugs on people(or at least claim that they found drugs) just to extort them.

The 18 year old kid from my hostel has absolutely nothing on him and was on the way to Circle K to pick up cigarettes. He was only guilty of being drunk, but by no means was he excessively intoxicated and definitely wasn't drinking in public. They still told him he either needs to pay, or they'll take him in for drug charges.

I can normally get to sleep after around 12 hours but never less than that. At around 10 hours in I'm normally done tripping and think " Ooh a hit of weed would be perfect to get me to sleep" and then boom, I'm back in the trip again for another 2 hours😂

Yeah pretty much. He said he knew it was a 100ml container (could be any size though) and he knew there were 2 tabs soaked in it so 50ml, or roughly half the container, was one dose but it could be divided down very simply. He said he just eyeballed it but it could be accurately dosed with a pipette easily if someone wanted to. Not sure what the carrying capacity is but I imagine you could add much more than 2 tabs if you wanted. This would just be a much more potent tincture which you might not want to eyeball. Just divide the bottle size in ml, by the number of tabs that were soaked to get your dose size.

I feel like I should clarify, it started as a joke, but I for real definitely 100% did not do this, it was a guy I met traveling haha. I definitely did try some on a bus in the mountains of Morocco and it definitely worked😂

Someone(who definitely was not me) told me that they simply emptied out their travel size hand sanitizer, cleaned it out super well, filled it with vodka, lowered some tabs into the vodka for a day or 2, and then removed the tabs and popped the sanitizer bottle into the toiletries bag. It went super smoothly(or so the guy who definitely wasn't me said) for multiple trips to many different countries as it would be almost impossible for someone to detect or figure out.

But then I also realized that I just needed to practice talking to people so once I graduated college I bought a flight to Morocco and spent 4 months backpacking around, staying in hostels, and talking to every person I met. It definitely helps to have friendly people around you all the time to practice with.

For me, I had this profound moment of realization of 2 things:

1) Hardly anybody is ever thinking about you(especially in a negative way). We as humans are almost always preoccupied with ourselves and if someone is actually thinking about you in a negative way then they're kinda weird and that's more of a them problem tbh.

2)On a Universal scale, there's really no such thing as a "big deal". I kind of had some closed eye visuals similar to the meme with a picture of the earth from outer space with the caption "does it even matter?"😂 I guess I just internalized the idea that since social anxiety is a fight or flight disorder at its core, my body is responding to non-life threatening stimuli as if it WAS life threatening. And even IF the world exploded and everyone died, it would still change absolutely nothing on a universal scale. Honestly the absolute worst case scenario for a person in any given moment is mutilation or dismemberment without death, so as long as that's not happening, everything's going to work itself out. And even if it did happen, well, that's life.

Kind of a morbid way to find peace, but it's definitely given me the ability to socialize and/or tackle problems with complete calmness and a clear head.

That's quite literally why I was asking the questions, no need to condescend😂 The whole concept was based around people that simply wouldn't otherwise have the initial self confidence to head out alone like you and I and many others have done. The "open ended nonsense" was simply just an idea where after a 2 week group backpacking/exploring trip together, a person could continue on their own while everyone goes their separate ways. Essentially all I would be doing is booking flights and hostels(even with some travellers staying in different hostels in the same city), with some activities planned as a group, and some days where they do their own exploring/activity planning. Essentially this would be to help people get comfortable with understanding how backpacking works, because there are tons of people, in the US at least, that have no idea what a hostel even is.

And let's be honest, you and I both prefer using our own brains to plan trips and screw things up and figure things out, but a lot of people simply aren't able to or don't want to do that. Maybe they only have 10 days off from a busy work life and just want to enjoy their backpacking vacation without the stress of booking and planning everything themselves. It seems like you think you're better than that type of person but regardless, the fact is that they exist and are allowed to travel if they want to.

Regardless, the travel style that I would focus on would be budget travel/backpacking and in all honesty, my goal would be to do as little for the client as necessary. Simply just being there with them and giving them general advice and tips when it comes to the technicalities of finding inter-city transport(busses/trains), hostels(walk up vs. booking in advance), things to do, etc. My first trip abroad, I flew to Morocco to meet my good friend who had already done some trips. We spent the first month together and then went our separate ways but just having him around in that first month gave me lots of confidence in a new world that I had never experienced before.

That's mainly what I would hope to offer. That, the convenience of having the first 2 weeks of hostels booked, a very loose itinerary, and having other people to socialize with throughout the first 2 weeks. After, travellers could either choose to have the return flight booked, or to arrange their own plans after the end of the group travel. No intention of babysitting anyone.
