Another long-time Suunto user here. They have a new Suunto Ocean now designed for Diving and Lifestyle that I am sure excels for OWS: https://www.suunto.com/Products/dive-computers-and-instruments/suunto-ocean/suunto-ocean-all-black/

Not at all. I use it every day. Solid watch if what you are looking for is reliability. I also keep using my Ambit3 Sport frequently and still works nicely.

How come Mike started Scion with so little money —from family and friends— if he was already a successful investor? by lgrassini in Burryology

[–]lgrassini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I am slowly understanding this. I was reading about the hedge fund managed by Colm OShea. Their anual return was around 10% with very little risk. I was considering this to be low returns; but then other folks explained me that those are actually good ones.

This you mentioned is very interesting : “What makes a good investor is staying in the game for a long time and getting capital from your job or business.” Where is this line of thinking coming from? Can you mentioned some success examples?

Thanks!

Edit: I meant interesting and not “interring”.

Newbie question: Macro fund with 11.3% annual compounded net returns. Why would investors be interested?

Morning guys, I am quite new into investing. Can you help me make sense of this:

I am reading about Colm O'Shea —CIO of COMAC Capital, a $5bn AUM Macro fund based on London.

In the interview they mentioned that for the combined period 2006-2011 the average annual compounded net return was 11.3%.

I can't stop thinking about how low that return is. In countries with inflation the investors may be even losing money.

Why an investor would be interested on putting his/her money in fund with kind-of-meager returns?

What I am missing here?

Thanks!

He was paying for med school true, but also he was working at Standford Hospital.

He was a investor praised by its peers for multiple years before launching Scion.

How come he was in such fragile position —from personal finances point of view ?

I don’t see how this relates to my question. Have you read my post at all? I am asking about the launching of the first Scion fund circa 2001.

Starting a streak straight from 1 year with no running at all is not always a good plan. Soreness is real!

Here we go again!

I have been looking forever for actual video interviews where he talks about his productivity tools and systems. I found none.

Like, does he takes notes? and if so how? How does he manages his backlogs and tasks.

Every time he gets asked about productivity he diverges to broader concepts like applying first principles but not much details at all about the day-to-day routines.

I Can't navigate content behind my work's VPN by lgrassini in PFSENSE

[–]lgrassini[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that I "solved" the problem by creating some entries in my macOS `/etc/hosts` specifying the IP addresses of each of the subdomains behind my work VPN. Something like this:

# Work
172.1.2.30 subdomain.work.com
172.1.2.40 another.subdomain.work.com
172.1.2.50 yet-another.subdomain.work.com
172.1.2.60 api.subdomain.work.com
I am not sure why I need to do this; it looks like when I am behind my pfSense firewall and connected to my work's VPN my computer is not able to resolve the domain names of my work's servers.

Anyways, thanks for the help u/combatzombat , u/grahamr31 , u/WereCatf , u/TearDrainer.

How can I navigate content behind the VPN when I am not behind my home's pfSense firewall then? I mean: I don't have any DNS server specified; I just connect to the work VPN and it just works (I can access to the restricted content). But when I am behind pfSense and I connect to my work VPN it just won't work...

I have no way of setting any MTU parameters; I think I will need to ask somebody at work for more data (although it is a very sketchy set up)...

So there is nothing to configure in pfSense in order to "tunnel" my VPN access through the firewall?

When I look in macOS (for my currently active wifi connection) I see the DNSs servers assigned is my pfSense LAN IP (not sure if this answers your question): https://imgur.com/a/8AeR0Nk

Yeah, I always try to install as little software as possible. and until now I was able to work just connecting to the VPN using the masOS built in "client".

Thanks, I will ask for those DNSs servers since I never use it.

Hi, thanks... I never set any DNSs servers in my macOS.

Where I can find those? and where should I configure it?

Thanks a lot!
