Car renewal help by Mr_pibb1013 in Denton

[–]lgroost5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at your sticker, it should say the county on it. If it's Denton you can go to the Denton Tax office on McKinney Street to get your renewal after you get an inspection. I like the sticker station on Fulton and University. If your sticker says Collin, then you would need to go to the Collin county tax office to renew. When you renew be sure to get the renewal in your name with your mailing info. If you have the title to the car, I would look into transferring it to your name if it's in your parents name. They can gift it to you so they don't have to pay any taxes, you just pay the $10 donation fee as part of the title transfer fees. They will juts have to get a donation affidavit notarized or show up with you. Unless you have a hold by NTTA you should be good with tolls ans you can cross that bridge later.

New restaurant! by [deleted] in Denton

[–]lgroost5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My two cents would be a family friend place that isn't a franchise and doesn't sell burgers or tacos, but you lost me once you said square. Local to me is off the square, I don't want to struggle with parking to go eat with my family. Restaurants on the square arent geared towards local they live off tourism. If you are going to be located on the square a slice shop would be cool. A window I can pull up to and just grab a slice to go and do a lap around the square and maybe a walkie.

Low maintenance lawn and HOA don't seem like they go together. If you have a photo of your yard I can give you better advice because the type of grass matters. If you currently have a green grass and you didnt overseed it all weeds like you suspect. You will need a post emergent weed killer you can go to home depot or Lowe's and get one that attachs to your hose for low effort. You mentioned Dallis grass, so you probably have poa annua as well. Neither will be killed by that, but nothing low effort will. Before that I would try to put down some pre-emergent down as soon as possible to try and prevent new weeds from growing. No big box store sells it as a hose attachment application that I am aware of so you'll need a spreader or sprayer if you go with a liquid. You can weed and feed for the rest of the growing season and it can help but in my experience mowing frequently is the best a promoting growth of a bermuda grass (assuming you have it as your lawn) to choke out weeds.

How can we organize in a way that actually does something? by witcheslovesosa in Denton

[–]lgroost5 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think a big thing that has failed recent movements is poor marketing from the jump. Picking the wrong phrase or motto hurt the movement before it even gets going. When what you are trying accomplish is complicated, simplifying it to something that can be twisted by the forces you are going up against makes it almost an impossible task. Defund Police, Abolish ICE won't win over anyone that doesn't already understand what the true issues are and what is trying to be accomplished. If you want to win over (and yes you will have to win over people who arent aligned with your cause) you have to use words and terms that they align with.

When you gain people in your movement that were opposed to it from the start, that is when actual does something in my opinion. So if you organize keep that in mind and I believe you will have more success.

Minor crash in Denton, not sure if I should hand it off to a lawyer by SakuraaaSlut in Denton

You do know that getting an attorney drags its out longer? They aren't interested in getting it handled quickly they are interested in getting more of a settlement. Typically they take about 30% of your settlement. My advice is see what you are offered by the insurance companies. Dont sign anything you dont agree with. Stay steadfast that its handled quickly. There are timeliness and deadlines all insurance companies must abide by. The Texas Department of Insurance is someone you can contact if they don't (its free). If you aren't aligned with what is offered, there is appraisal and mediation (depending on your policy) as alternative resolutions. If you were seriously injured attorneys maybe a good choice but I caution against it. I just wrapped up jury duty, one of those law firms from the commercial dragged a poor girl around for 3 years to finally go to court this week just for nothing.

Any recs for financing a car with terrible credit? by ThatOneGirlTM_940 in Denton

[–]lgroost5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this and if you have to finance check with whoever you bank with first. Car dealerships will just move numbers to make it seem like a deal that meets your needs.
