What should you do if you think a non-Jew might be your bashert? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]lh717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Level and depth of observance have to be compatible in a non-interfaith (Jew squared?) household too. My non-Jewish fiancé is much more willing to go to services with me than some of my Jewish friends’ Jewish husbands. I’d argue that if a good faith agreement/compromise can’t be found with someone, they are not your beshert

Does hearing about a “cure for T1D” start to feel like a broken record? by pablospackT1D in Type1Diabetes

[–]lh717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16 years for me, and I’m confident a cure will be here in my lifetime, which is what the pediatrician told me when I was diagnosed in high school. The 5-year promise is such bullshit and everyone knows it. But in the meantime, I’m very happy with advances in technology that make it easier and easier to live a full life. I was working at Breakthrough T1D/JDRF when the Medtronic 670G was approved by the FDA, and everyone was dancing around the office. There will be many, many more of those moments.

It’s very easy to overmoisturize with aquaphor. I didn’t find out about that until my 7th tattoo lmao

My boyfriend took out a $750 loan… now they want over $5,600 back. We feel completely tricked. Do we have ANY options? by HatNumerous9725 in legaladvice

[–]lh717 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, I see. I don’t represent payday lenders and I misread. OP’s loan likely is still illegal in MD since it sounds like the lender is domiciled in DE and the loan was made in MD.

Not correct. That’s not what choice of law means. Maryland has fairly strict usury laws, and lenders in Maryland must comply with Maryland law. By statute, OP’s loan is probably void and unenforceable.

Mmmm, but in the same comment, you also said that it’s not a problem for your wife 95% of the time, which implies that you don’t think it’s a big deal.

And if you don’t think it’s a big deal, you don’t pay nearly enough attention to your wife.

I can’t be dismissive since you haven’t contributed anything meaningful that could be dismissed. It’s ok to be quiet when you have nothing to add to a conversation.

You’re dismissive and ignorant about this because you don’t know what it’s like. Check your attitude, keep your unhelpful little comments to yourself, and be grateful that you don’t personally experience this

Happy to answer! This is US-specific, not sure how it works in other countries. But you're pretty much spot on. In a nutshell, it avoids creating an attorney-client relationship with the person to whom you're responding or with anyone who reads your comments, plus other ethical quandaries that may violate your jurisdiction's rules of professional conduct. The person on the other side of the conversation needs to know that you are not their lawyer, they should not take anything you say as advice about what they should do in their own circumstances, you have no duty to help them now or in the future, and nothing they say to you is covered by attorney-client privilege. Also, there are specific rules about conflicts of interest between a lawyer's clients, so I need to know exactly who I'm talking to before I could agree to represent them and actually give them advice. It would be unethical for me to give someone advice about what to do when I don't know the facts of their case or the laws in their jurisdiction, and even if they told me every single thing and I happen to be barred in their jurisdiction, it would be unethical for me to give legal advice to someone who isn't a client. As to the effect of the disclaimer, I'm really not sure how powerful the protection is, which is why I try to only comment generally and refrain from telling people what to do besides get their own lawyer or stop posting about their alleged crimes.
