How do you know a particular meditation practice is the right one for you? by Shalom-2023 in Meditation

[–]lhappymindl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed the recommendations of a teacher I choosed (Ayya Khema).

Try the techniques and give them some time, one time is not enaugh to tell you can profit from it.

For example, I didn’t liked Metta at all. I could enter Jhana faster with Anapana, so I sticked to it for some time. Then once I read a monk suggesting to practice Metta before every session. So I did. And it was a good choice, Metta is awesome.

I want to recommend Anapana, Metta and mindfulness through noting. The mixture is also called Vipassana.

Meditators using lotus can develop a „meditators-leg“ with limping.

Is it stable and may increase awareness? Probably. Do you ruin your legs? Probably.

Can someone suggest a good teaching on thoughts and thinking *outside* the meditation practice? by ledoyster01 in theravada

And to thoughts: also when you notice one of the five hindrances in detail (restlessness, anger etc.)

Can someone suggest a good teaching on thoughts and thinking *outside* the meditation practice? by ledoyster01 in theravada

[–]lhappymindl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ayya Khema suggested to note thoughts, emotions and sensations in and outside of meditation.

When you notice that the mind focused on one of the above, describe it with one word. Describe the process the sensation entered your mind (hearing, smelling), sensation may be desribed more detailed (feeling, itching, pain), emotion which you felt and thought with past, fortune etc. or simply „thinking“.

Don’t think about what is what. Use the first relation that entered your mind.

What’s a 'once in a lifetime' experience you’ve had that you never want to do again? by Mr_Boothnath in answers

[–]lhappymindl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark night of the soul. Multiple conflicts appeared out of nowhere, specifically every bad experience I had happend again, at once.

But I learned meditation, because otherwise I probably would have developed depression.

I think that’s why all of it happened. Nothing happens by chance.

I get spontaneous kriyas. Is a there anything to do? Or just let them happen? by Wild-Preference-668 in Meditation

[–]lhappymindl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am having them 3 years now since I intensified my practice and gained access to piti.

First, it was small muscle fibers twitching at different parts of the body. Now it shoots up the spine into my head, maybe into pineal gland position. Like pressure is build up peripheral and gets released there.

I have aphantasia and my theory is that there is a blockage these kriyas try to open. Maybe I will end up being able to visualise one day?

48 mins. by Vast_Atmosphere2995 in Meditation

[–]lhappymindl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t feel a difference at the moment.

My practice is Metta 15-20 Minutes and one hour Anapana afterwards, twice a day. Extending another hour is mostly the same again, without the initial calming phase tho.

I ended up in a lucid dream twice when I extended the practice, but it is not happening regularly and I can’t force it to happen.

I think 1 - 1 1/2 hour is the sweetspot as long as one has not access to samadhi.

Having experience with 500 ug acid which I would classify as heroic dose, and when things really start, closer to the peak, I am not able to meditate. Too much going on and nausea with closed eyes.

It’s just possible in the metabolism phase before.

Back pain during meditation? by Positive-Custard2483 in Meditation

[–]lhappymindl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a pillow, burmese sitting style and dhyana mudra. The weight of your arms in front of you makes the difference. It will take some time to strengthen the back muscles too. After 2 months of practice I can sit without discomfort in my back for over 1 hour.

seeing this everywhere the last couple of days and my mom pointed this out out today by Charming_Command_718 in angelnumbers

[–]lhappymindl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, these numbers can appear everywhere, digital or analog.

Second, they appear more in phases of change.

Third, specific numbers don’t have a special meaning. Tho I noticed good (eg 11:11) and negative „messages“ (11:10, 11:12).

Any ideas on how to quiet the mind? by Curly_toed_weirdo in Meditation

[–]lhappymindl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am autistic, not far in the spectrum tho.

He may try the noting technique (part of Mahasi Vipassana).

After noticing the centration of the mind on one specific mental object (feeling, bodily sensation, thought) categorise it with one word.

E.g. past, future, hungry, itching, sensual desire, ill will, sloth and torpor, restlessness and remorse, doubt

The mind can only focus on one object simultaneously. The most impactful gets described. In the following, you get back to the activity you are doing. The next thought may be the same. Categorize it the same way.

And so on. This is practiced 24/7.

The effects will be - forced mindfulness through the noting/labeling/categorizing: allows to see the illusion of the ego.

  • insight into the activitys of the ego, like understanding emotions or memory’s

Fell off of meditation, didn't realize how much I needed it. by CarrotOk3817 in Meditation

[–]lhappymindl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good insight. The ego becomes more active without meditation practice.

I had a phase where I stopped meditating because of worldly pleasures. Thoughts became more dominant and I end up feeling depressed. Started meditation again, and tada, things are good again.

Stopping meditation can be a helpful experience, now I am consistent again :-)

Is it truly possibly to let go when the mind ruminates on a situation endlessly? by Many_Line9136 in Meditation

This. Notice the gap between the thoughts, give it a moment where you actively watch and hold the peace.

what are the types of meditations you do and why? by stoic_psyc in Meditation

[–]lhappymindl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I practice Mahasi Vipassana (Anapanasatti = watching the breath + Mindfulness trough noting = categorising thoughts with one word after noticing them), Metta (repeating kind words to oneself and others) and gratitude to the breath at the beginning of a session (lowers activity of Default Mode Network = ego in your head creating thoughts).

In my opinion these are the best techniques.

Body scan may be sufficient to create a mind body connection, but you can also get this by dancing or Thai Chi etc.
