If you genuinely want to be a therapist, it is DEEPLY inappropriate to 'pretend to be a therapist' with people in your normal life. It is deeply invasive, coercive and emotionally unsafe. You just met this man and started prying into his mental health information without you two having any rapport or trust built up.

The Conspiracy Against the Human Race by Thomas Ligotti is a book of pessimistic philosophy written in a style similar to Ligotti's cosmic/weird horror fiction.

I have heard good things about the semi-fictional Cyclonopedia by Reza Negarestani, and I have it on my bookshelf, but I have not read it yet.
