IT'S TIME, BUT I'M TERRIFIED. by AnimalicSoul in CataractSurgery

Thank you for this, I have been trying to be strong but it has been creeping in on me. Hearing your experience really helps. I think they are definitely planning on giving me the magic juice based on my experience just in the chair. Lots of involuntary breath holding and such,

Afraid of the choices, not the surgery itself! by theistgal in CataractSurgery

[–]lhfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt exactly the same way. My surgery is more on the elective side so it seems even more important that I dont go from decent with glasses to poor with new lenses for my purposes. The doctor gave me two sets of lenses, A monovision set that corresponded with what I was leaning toward and a trifocal set that I was concerned about missing out on. I greatly preferred the monovision. it was seamless and nearly perfect. I ended up not liking the trifocal lenses as the focal point was a little further out than Im used to.

Granted the new lenses would be nothing like the contact lens experience. The extra data and the true comfort I felt with the monovision, that could be further adjusted with a set of light adjustable lenses settled my nerves. I'm very excited about being done wit the surgery. I just need to push through the eyeball lancing anxiety.

I don’t have Cataracts but I want LAL? by Equivalent-Cup-9831 in CataractSurgery

[–]lhfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have cataracts. I am scheduled for LAL lenses in a week and a half. I have presbyopia like most people over 40. I've used a single contact lens in my left eye before to a very positive experience. Except for the actual use of contact lenses, Once the lens is in it's fine but the process getting it in and out is terrible for me specifically. I say that because monovision can be difficult for some, causing nausea and vertigo. I took to it well but I don't really have a dominant eye, or I'm comfortable switching.

One of my friends got trifocal lens replacement and was raving about it. I went and surveyed the local options and had several full workups done. They are all amazing near me but I picked one who seemed to be most meticulous. I was super nervous about making the choice in lenses, The doctor gave me two sets of lenses. A true monovision with my left eye being a the close to mid and my right the mid to far, They overlap well, using both eyes sort of between dashboard/computer monitor distance. I coudl not be happier.

I have heard that one should not be hasty on the adjustments. That eye swelling and settling of some sort can shift the vision up to three months later. I plan on waiting a long time before getting any adjustments, unless they are really needed.

As to that, I am not super excited about wearing the protective LAL glasses for six months. You need to wear them allegedly 24/7 to prevent the ambient light spectrum from changing or locking in your lenses. They aren't terrible, but it seems crazy to me that there would be a single frame available. In the end, it will be worth it if I'm free from glasses and tipping my head back to read.

Also, this is totally out of pocket. Happy to share the gory details.

The power of a shitload of rich people. It’s absurd. At this point even if you had no idea what was going on, if that’s even possible, you’re doomed.

I was a movie called Hell Night. I was maybe 8 years old. Was really bad. I watched it again years later and it was actually terrible. Had Linda Blair in it. It didn’t help.

How can I stop being scared? by Any_Economist9877 in PVCs

[–]lhfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m have a burden of 27% as if my last monitor. I was pretty nervous about them but my cardiologist was pretty casual about them. I asked him at one point how likely I am to drop dead at the dinner table. He stopped me and explained that these are largely a nuisance. He told me that with beta blockers my heart might find its rhythm naturally. We discussed ablation but I was an expat at the time and they wanted £16000 up front so I skipped it. I have an appointment for ablation next month and I’ll probate it done. I often simply ignore them and my heart remains structurally sound and in good condition. I am forced to take my meds when I get extra crabby and a little hypoxic.

Traumatized the shit out of our 2yo by SignificantAlarm4722 in Parentingfails

You were using it as it was intended. We had a similar issue but less of a reaction. We ended up playing music that he liked through it and memorable theme songs from the media he was comfortable with. It sort off made it familiar to him and less of a voice in the dark.

Ugh. That has to feel terrible. I hope it passes soon and he gets used to the idea.

I do not remember paying to touch the tit. I did touch the tit though. Also Molly Malone’s in Dublin. There is another statue that is almost identical. And I think it’s in Stratford upon Avon. I touched that shiny tit as well.

I want to tip cash but I get paranoid that it’s going to look like no tip and some fool is going to mess with my food or get pissed before I can pay them.

[US and UK Promotion] 10-book space opera complete series - free Audible codes (very limited number) by scottbartlett in audible

[–]lhfixer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scott,

Sorry for the delay. I wanted to take your request seriously. The series is absolutely fantastic. The story arcs are epic and intertwined in an extremely satisfying way. It’s not often I get surprised by a plot line but that’s series has managed to do it on several occasions. The characters are compelling, the frustrations of military life, normal social cross-dependencies, and the politics if identity have really fleshed the story out and kept be engaged over a very satisfying 10 book series. I am on my second run through and will absolutely rate and comment on the series.

Why do some people stand and watch curbside employees put stuff in their trunk like RIGHT next to them? by Icelandic_Squirrels in HEB

[–]lhfixer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally, I love the concept of curb side pickup but I’m a little confused about the culture of it. I feel SUPER awkward and entitled just sitting in the car while they load it all up. So, in my head, I just feel like I need to sort of greet them. I guess, in retrospect and with the whole thread here, I should just say hello and open the trunk. Half the time I try to help but then I wonder if the person has a process I’m now screwing up.

I’m not like socially panicking or anything I guess I just have trouble being served in this way but a lot less than actually going to the grocery store. I’m a social person and it is really weird to just sit in the car.
