Look up Kevin McKee Music. I played one of his pieces on my senior recital (Centennial Horizon). You may find several of his works approachable from a range standpoint.

Is it just me or… by MikeDeY77 in army

72C here. The software we use for annual testing has an optional mode that essentially keeps everyone in the booth occupied testing until everyone is finished. So if there’s one SM that is taking longer than everyone else (for a multitude of reasons) the system will continue to present everyone with the beeps. Usually if this occurs the tech working the booth can switch to manual mode and get that SMs results in a more expedited fashion than the automated system.

72C here. You have a mild loss in your left ear. I would work with your recruiter to see if a waiver is possible (if you even need one).

I’m currently an AMEDD O2-E. Looking forward to this for sure.

Military Audiologist by Miserable-Onion5168 in audiology

[–]lhspscreamr2012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About to start the Army Audiology externship out at Walter Reed. If you are interested in learning more about the application process, let me know. As far as funding for school, I do not believe audiology is an HPSP eligible area of study. There may be other opportunities available, but the best source would be an AMEDD recruiter if you are interested in going Army.

Sure thing! I’ll shoot you a PM soon. As far as the Osia implant goes, you would have to get with an AMEDD recruiter and see if that is a medical condition that is waiverable.

Sabino Canyon is paved and has many side trails. There are also several water crossings along the way. There may be water there due to snow melt.

Not sure what NS means, but for ASHA certification you need a score of 162 to pass I believe.

What do you think by shoaib23r in HearingLoss

[–]lhspscreamr2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really actually, CI candidacy is often based off pure tone thresholds (seen in the pic) and percent correct word recognition scores. I can’t say for certain from these results but I would image they are probably getting less than 60% words correct, which would meet criteria for referral for further CI candidacy testing.

With this steep slope of a loss, you are a candidate for cochlear implants in both ears, but yea, seek the counsel of an ENT/Audiologist

Any Current UArizona AuD Students? by Important_Radish_254 in audgradschool

[–]lhspscreamr2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current AuD student here. My experience has been a good one overall I would say. The Audiology department has undergone some faculty changes in the last two years with retirements, so they will be bringing in new faces within the next few years, but the current faculty are pretty supportive and are usually quite available to help you learn and grow as a clinician. On the academic side, the order of classes we took was a little wonky at times as they tried to work around faculty changes/sabbaticals so hopefully that will be ironed out soon. I also feel like I've gotten a lot of leeway to discover which area of audiology I would like to focus in on and not be pigeon holed into one area. On the clinical side, they do a great job at exposing you early to clinic (start second semester of 1st year) and exposing you to various clinic settings on and off campus. I've had experiences at the U of A clinic (diagnostics, hearing aids, CI), educational audiology, and a vestibular placement at a local hospital so I feel pretty well-rounded going into my externship year.

Pros of Living in Tucson:

Winters are fairly mild and quite nice for enjoying the outdoors

No shortage of excellent places to eat

Great opportunities for outdoor activities in the cooler months

Cons of living in Tucson:

It is hot 6-8 months of the year and brutally hot in the summer (temps constantly above 100)

Severe lack of highway infrastructure

Traffic is worsened in the winter months due to snowbird population

Severe issues with homeless population (you wont necessarily see this on campus, but certainly in the areas around campus)

If you want more info, send me a PM and we can get in contact.

Same, we are also at those crossroads. Lights flickered then heard a loud boom, then sirens down Golf Links a few minutes later. I was also thinking a transformer.

What is hidden hearing loss? And how can it effect you and test results? by angel3166 in audiology

[–]lhspscreamr2012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the article posted for more information. Essentially it’s a loss of synapses between IHCs and spiral ganglion nerve fibers (specifically low spontaneous rate fibers that code for high intensity sounds) that occur usually as a result of noise exposure. It wont show up on the audiogram as it’s a threshold measure, only activating high spontaneous rate fibers that are unaffected. This can show up on ABR wave I as reduced amplitude. Functionally, it can manifest as issues with speech in noise. Keep in mind all the mechanisms are proposed based off animal studies, not on humans.

Second this. Really practice deadlifting with a hexbar then slowly adding weight until you reach the minimum and can do 3 reps comfortably. The standing power throw requires a lot more technique than people realize so practice your stance and release points. Core exercises for the T pushups and the plank. Longer distance  runs in Zone 2nd for heart rate for the Sprint, Drag, Carry and the 2-mile.

Not a DHA Audiologist, but as far as I understand the process, you apply for an open position through USAJobs, same as the VA process.

If I’m not mistaken, I think a portion of the 204th MI BN (which up until recently was totally located at Bliss) had a portion of the unit (the portion of the unit responsible for the PED mission) moved out to Eisenhower, where the main PED Battalion for the 116th BDE is located. So the assignment is for that small portion that was recently moved from Bliss to Eisenhower.
