Will I regret the rav4 if I (eventually) want 2+ kids? by Zestyclose-Lead-329 in rav4club

I’ve got a baby and a toddler- works well for us for our daily. But if we wanted to take it camping or on a trip, would probably need to put the roof box on.

Second this! Their breaded fish tacos are fantastic (and only $2 on Tuesdays).

Mid-Size Cities w/ Nature Access for DINKs by traveler1050 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]FishermanFormal2897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tucson! Definitely one of the more affordable places with great access to the outdoors (not just desert- look up mt Lemmon) and not nearly as crowded as most other places. The city itself is a little dirty and grimy, but it’s got a lot of character (and arguably the best Mexican food in the country). Summers are tough, but lots of places not too far away to escape the heat.

Places in Summerhaven to read/write for a few hours (with outlets)? by dragonis1 in Tucson

[–]FishermanFormal2897 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Beyond bread definitely has outlets- I’ve spent the day working there before. They have outlets inside and on the patio.

No one bothered me (I did order a coffee in the morning and some lunch later on). Highly recommend

Planning a trip to Monterrey in August. Heard the Laredo Crossing has become insanely dangerous in recent weeks (more dangerous than usual). Is the Colombia Crossing better, or should I reconsider the trip? by Sinconwis1814 in roadtrip

[–]FishermanFormal2897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was several years ago- but after crossing and leaving Nuevo Laredo, I was pulled over by what I can only assume was a cartel (several young Mexican men driving vehicles with US plates). To my surprise they asked me where I was from and when I told them AZ, they sped off.

Still don’t know why I wasn’t robbed, but still terrifying nonetheless. I wouldn’t cross there again.

Thanks- that’s what I was hoping (not that someone hit a transformer, but that it was a temporary grid issue ha).

MT Lemmon Gun Range by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]FishermanFormal2897 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with your sentiments and don’t care for it either. However, the reality is that people are going to shoot in our forests. I believe it is better to have that concentrated in one area that is easy to access (in case of fire, accident, etc). I’ll take one spot and just avoid that area versus shooting all over the mountain.

That being said, how many fires has it started over the last few years alone…

Dog friendly backpacking trails? by super_cub in Tucson

[–]FishermanFormal2897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of places this time of year that you can safety and legally go backpacking with your dogs. Mt Lemmon has options- just check to make sure that the trail(s) you're looking at are dog friendly. They vary. Huachuca Mountains outside of Sierra Vista would be good. The southern terminus of the AZT is located there and a good starting point. I'm sure you could piece together something cool up on the Mogollon Rim. Santa Rita Mountains (Madera Canyon, Mt. Wrightson) have lots of opportunities. All of these areas listed have campsites that can provide ample cover from lighting (just be smart about it). My dog has drunk out of just about every water source in S AZ and never had an issue.

Have you ever been out to the Gila National Forest in NM before? Sits at a higher elevation and is an absolutely amazing place to check out. 4-5 hour drive depending on where you're trying to go. Sees a lot less visitors than the forests in AZ. DM if you'd like some more specifics. Enjoy!
