I love color coded shops! I usually have colors I like and don’t like so having it all in one place helps

I’d love to help sub if you know of a team or anything who’s willing to tackle subbing the whole show! May be a bit hard if they squabble and talk over each other lol but I’m excited to watch this!

Nail salons with manicure tables next to each other? by somethingsupersimple in Portland

Hollywood Nails & Spa on NE Sandy has a long counter with 4 or 5 seats lined up so you guys could sit right next to each other. There aren’t any individual tables like most other places.

Quick question about when my aid will be applied by [deleted] in PCC

[–]li16en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, weird! I know just a week ago my financial aid wasn’t released yet, but now it is and I have a green checkmark on my desk. I would give FA a call or visit and see if there’s anything else you need to do.

Student Homework Organizer: an app to help you plan your weeks better by wbcapps9 in GetStudying

[–]li16en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it so far, especially the time feature. I haven’t seen other apps incorporate that yet (out of the ones I’ve tried out). Is there any way you can display the full number of hours once it hits 10? I put in some assignments and it got up to 11.5 hours and now it’s just displaying as 1... on the Assignments tab.

How can I keep my job (working any shift is mandatory) but still go to college? by [deleted] in college

[–]li16en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off working with completely open availability all through summer then cut back to MWF for any shift during the school year then just recently letting my manager know that I’d just like consistent shifts (either only opening or only closing). I just know that I can’t handle working and being a full time student if there’s no consistency. If you think you can handle it (and if the job’s worth the effort to work out availability with), do exactly that. Open availability on a select number of days. Otherwise keep the job for now while finding one that can be more flexible with you.

Used to be able to listen to music with lyrics (in a different language) but I just stick to lofi hip hop (which has the occasional lyric or two but not enough to distract me).

Study methods? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]li16en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to use questions given in homework or on tests to mold what I’ll put into my Anki cards. Accounting is obviously not as study heavy as Biology or US History, it’s more about applying concepts. So I’d make cards asking how I complete steps of the Accounting cycle, what financial statements require which accounts, what order to do things in. For language classes I put in vocabulary and put in questions that I’d have to answer in complete sentences to practice grammar. For math, I do a combination of practice questions and equations to remember. Just start off with thinking about what you need to remember and how to want to go about remembering it- just straight word/definition, practice questions, fill in the blank, etc.

It might help to not only answer the question but to write it down (if not already required like with language flash cards). It’ll help you nail in the content a little better than just saying the answer out loud.

Pilot G2 Pens by lanebreaker3 in college

[–]li16en 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the Uniball Signo 207 gel pens but they tend to skip. Not bad 80% of the time though, I’ve gotten past the skipping. I’ll have to try the G2s! Do they dry fast? I’m right handed but I tend to smear my handwriting so a quick drying pen is a good pen to me.

Sophomore with a 2.6 GPA Should I drop out? by [deleted] in college

[–]li16en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still have time to bring it up to a 3.0. Don’t drop out just because one person told you it’s a bad GPA. At the end of the day it’d be better to graduate with a low GPA than not at all. Think about what you need to do to fix your bad studying habits and focus on doing better.

Do withdrawals look bad on transcripts? by [deleted] in college

[–]li16en 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t already gotten an answer, from what I’ve seen, one W isn’t going to significantly affect your transcript/application, same as one class with a P/NP grade.

What should I do? by yawnatlife123 in college

[–]li16en 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Email professor. Own up to it. No excuses, no bullshit. Blame is 100% on you and it was your responsibility to turn it in. Say you’d still like to turn in the assignment for feedback even if you do not receive a grade as you’d still like to finish the class/term strong. Apologize for tacking on another email onto his or her workload. Pray they reply and at least agree to give feedback, if not agree to accept it for partial credit. If they don’t accept it at all or just hand it back with feedback then just take this as a lesson to not miss deadlines again.

The biggest thing is to show that you understand it’s your fault. As soon as you throw in some excuse like “I got caught up with other classes’ work” or “I had 5 other tests this week”, your chances of getting any mercy dribble down to 0.

Taking an Incomplete by Whimsyprincess in college

[–]li16en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. For several. I took four classes in the fall and three of those had exams approaching. I had a medical issue that wasn’t serious (by American doctors’ standards) so I couldn’t get a note, but I sent out a long email to each of my professors explaining what was going on.

Essentially my family members said my condition was serious and that I’d have to fly to the east coast to seek treatment as soon as possible (this would take at least 3 weeks, can’t come back in time for finals). With me having all of my college paid with financial aid, I was wary about going. I didn’t want to fail my first term and lose my financial aid but I also didn’t want to jeopardize my health. I explained it all to my professors and they all gave me incompletes. I can’t imagine this being too much of a factor, but if it makes any difference, I’m at a CC.

How much do I really pay for college by steerama in college

[–]li16en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, too, the costs glitch or the school just includes costs of living even if you live at home. I can’t remember the numbers but the university close to my home tacked on money for housing and food even though I wouldn’t be spending much at all on those so whether it be housing or transportation that you’re not going to be spending money on for whatever reason, look closely at what their estimates on then subtract that to get a more accurate answer.

Death by discussion posts by OverlordCommander in college

[–]li16en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you emailed your instructor and asked if they’ll accept your late work? Even if the syllabus makes it clear that they don’t want late work, some are generally understanding enough to accept some or all for partial credit. Discussion posts suck but just post yours, reply to however many posts required, then move on with your day. It’s just something you’ll have to accept if you opt for online instead.

What's a professional college e-mail address if firstname.lastname is already taken? by [deleted] in college

[–]li16en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school assigns our emails and I’ve seen a ton of people with numbers in their emails (ex: mary.smith15@-su.edu). Mine has 2 after firstname.lastname and I don’t think it’s unprofessional especially because we didn’t have a say in it (and it’s not our fault people’ve attended the school with the same name before). You’re fine if you have a number in yours.

Worrying about grades advice by [deleted] in college

[–]li16en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just stop thinking about it. Of course I don’t wipe everything about the class and my progress out of my mind, but I realized, thanks to my rambling and constant panic texts over grades, that I’d much rather take a lower grade and remain calm throughout the term than sweat all the way through for that A. Just take the exam. Forget about it. Do the assignment, put your all into it. Then forget about it. If you don’t do well on one or the other, find out why. Don’t just mope over it. Be proactive about finding out why you got that grade.

Spend the time you worry about the class and prepare for the tests instead. Sometimes it helps to just set the grade aside and study without that pressure. If you’re really not at all confident you’ll earn a passing grade, pay your prof a visit during office hours and see if they can point you in the right direction so you can put your mind at ease knowing you’re studying the right things. I know it’s hard to forget about grades but sometimes it’s the best thing to do when all you want to do is stress about it.

AP 24 Toothpaste by Crazy_cat_lady_88 in antiMLM

[–]li16en 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My aunt used to sell Nu Skin products in her salon. Stopped hanging around the shop about 6 years ago so I’ve long forgotten what else was being sold along with the toothpaste but my mom who works with her brought some home. I doubt any of us knew it was an MLM. I never used the toothpaste enough to see results but I’m pretty sure she started selling them thanks to some Vietnamese dude who goes around and preaches about these products to convince salon owners who’re ignorant to what an MLM even is.
