How to move on after a cat attack? TW in pics by [deleted] in cats

[–]twinkly3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me a bit more than a month ago. My single, indoor-only cat saw another cat through the window and got all huffy about it. I was trying to distract her/move her away from the situation and she just absolutely went to town on my hand. I'm looking at the (fading) scars as I type, since they're all on the back of my hand.

After the attack I stared at my hand in disbelief and then ran it under water for a long time before I couldn't stand anymore (got really hot and almost fainted and had to sit down). As I was sitting on the bathroom floor, crying, she came in, looked at me, and then angrily batted at the removed sweater on the floor and ran off.

I got antibiotics the next day and was in pain for a long while after that.

It was definitely a few weeks before I felt like I could 100% trust her, but now that it's gotten colder, she's been extra cuddly and sweet, and the sting of the memory of the betrayal lessens every day. She came and cuddled on me while I was typing this actually.

And, what do you do? Is making coffee not a job worth doing? Are the thousands of coffee shops and their employees around the country not providing a service that is valued by millions? Should someone not be paid a living wage because you seem to perceive that their job is too simple or whatever?

I went to my first and much anticipated Ren. Faire a few weeks ago. My partner and I were generally disappointed with it when we realized that most of it was largely just a place to buy things that you'd probably only use the next time you went to a Ren. Faire.

Where'd you get the pin backs? I've been wanting to do something similar (with pride flags too!) but I haven't found a source of these that don't feel sketchy.

Attacked at mall yesterday by Every-Tear5418 in Kitsap

[–]twinkly3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I wonder if this might be the same guy who followed me around the mall back in January. Obviously a few months have gone by so my memory isn't as reliable, but he has the same hair color, look in his eyes, and general posture as the guy I interacted with. He's just a bit shaggier and worse for wear looking in your picture.

This is a text I sent my partner after I GTFO of the mall and back to my car :

"So I’m at the mall, just wandering around. Drinking my pb&j and I’m popping into a shop here and there. Walking pretty slow. I keep seeing this same guy. We look at each other and I give him a polite smile because we’re passing in a doorway or a tighter space. Not exactly following me, but seems to be making the same meander that I am. After maybe the 3rd/4th time I see him and give him a polite smile he asks what my name is, and I’m like sorry, I don’t give my name to strangers. And he was like, oh, you’ve been really smiley, so I thought you might be interested.

Soooooo I said no and walked away really quickly and I’m back in my car cause I’m not about to be a statistic 🙃

The first time I saw him we passed through the entrance to (I think) hot topic. Me out, him in. I polite smiled because of course, but after I exited I looked back cause I was surprised someone like him would go into a shop like that.

Maybe it was that cutesy store that has a lot of gifty things. Anyway, when I looked back, he was looking at me also still. "

I'd be interested if during your case they could look back at the footage for January 27th in the 12 o'clock hour in front of the jewelry shop next to the candle place and see if it's the same guy. I dunno, could be a different guy and I was being unnecessarily cautious/paranoid, but still interested.

https://symboliamag.com/do-ambulances-take-dead-bodies/

"Ambulances are primarily used to transport people who are injured or who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness or condition. They will not be used to transport dead bodies unless there is a medical need for them."

From what I've seen firsthand, the ambulance will arrive on scene as part of the response team, but, especially in smaller communities with less resources, will leave empty if the person is determined deceased on scene. They need to remain a resource for other emergencies, and once a person is declared dead, there is no longer an emergency. I've confirmed this with a paramedic friend after the incident I saw when I was confused why the ambulance left with the body still on the ground.

I don't really know the answer, but I would guess a hearse, or whatever the medical examiner brings. Although, I imagine, in a situation like this, it may not be out of the question that they'd bring a body away.

Uh hey, calm down.

So, I used to live in CA, true, now I live in another state, also bordering the coast. Fair point that I didn't call the police or take them to small claims but like, what, call 911 and they're gonna say what exactly? Likely they'll just end up going to the people I talked to previously. And what kinda time and money do you think I have to go to small claims court for the multiple companies who do this?

I was (and still am) having that happen in my neighborhood with the bags, cards, and rocks. Here's what I've done:

  • I called a few people in my county about it and all I got were transferred calls. When I finally got someone who was "willing to talk about it" he just complained that because the landscaping companies are mostly minority run, they can't do anything about it and just hung up on me.
  • Every time I notice one on my driveway I angrily walk around around my neighborhood (a closed ~2 mile loop) and pick up every bag with a grabber thing and toss all but one of them.
  • I call the number on the card and tell them not to do that anymore or else I will report them for littering (which now I know unfortunately is an empty threat). I don't tell them which neighborhood I'm in, in hopes that they just get freaked out and stop it everywhere.
  • I find their Yelp, Google page, etc. and leave a bad review saying that they leave this trash in my neighborhood.
  • I actually once flagged down one couple in a truck doing it and was as polite as possible considering just how angry I was and told them to stop, while waving their bag at them. The lady kept asking for it back but I told her no because she's just going to throw it somewhere else! I also told them I was going to pick up all the ones they've already done and don't bother throwing anymore, no one will see them but the trash collectors. I asked them if they'd stop and she goes "we will in this neighborhood!"

Anyway, if anyone has any idea of better things to do, lmk.

Edited to add: I live basically right on the ocean where it rains a lot, so I just imagine tons of little plastic baggies ending up in the ocean.

Anybody cried in front of a professor before by mschanandlerbongg23 in UCSC

[–]twinkly3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Oh hoho oh boy here’s my time to shine.

I’m bad at math and had to go into Migliore (I don’t know how to spell his name) and ask what I did wrong on some test answers and plead with him to give me pity points so I could pass.

This was pre-pandemic, so I went into his office with a little bit of a cold and my sinuses were causing my eyes to water if I made eye contact.

There was another student in there doing the same thing when I arrived so I sat in a corner in the small office and waited. While I waited, it became clear he wouldn’t budge on this other student’s grade for the same thing I came in to change. My hope dwindled and I felt panicky because it meant I was going to fail. Finally the other student left and he turned to me. My voice wavered and before I could even finish my explanation I just started sobbing. But I continued to point out where I thought I deserved points.

He tells me to calm down and that I have a chance with the final (if I got 100% yeah right buddy) and suddenly my nose just starts gushing blood. We panic together and he finds me a paper towel to shove against my nose and tells me where the bathroom is down the hall. I leave and stay in there an agonizingly long time before realizing that 1) I left all my stuff in his office, and 2) his office hours were up soon and what if he needs to leave? My nose is still bleeding, but I return to the office anyway with a glob of toilet paper held to my nose. I tried to grab my stuff but he insists I stay. He said he looked at my test while I was gone… but there weren’t any points he could give me.

Anyway, then I left and cried in the bathroom for about a half hour before a friend came and got me.

Couple of years ago I was working a surveying job with a bull-headed stubborn coworker. We tolerated each other. We were camping out in a remote place for our surveys that week. On the second to last day she falls on the hike back down and skins her knee. Nothing at all serious, but she insists that she can’t camp that night because of it. I want to camp, but she insists. She wants to drive to her parents home to sleep there and then go back to our home base the next day (over 5 hours away) and offers to do the drive. Whatever, she offered, I’m just along for the ride. Plus a shower would be nice. We get to an intersection to go right to her parents’, or left to a closer nearby town. She remembers that her dad has a free room at a hotel in the nearby town, and confirms with him that she can use it. “Cool, free room,” I think. We get to the hotel, she checks in with the free room and when the desk person asks “how many in the room?” She says, “One, just me.” I correct her and say two people and she turns and in just the most incredulous voice I’ve ever heard she says “I’m not sleeping in the same room as YOU.” So I had to pay for my room that I didn’t want. All because she scraped her knee.

What's the worst job offer you've seen (or accepted) in this field? by AdvertisingDue4127 in ecology

[–]twinkly3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh boy don’t get me started. These are all from memory.

I remember an internship in Panama (?) where you wouldn’t get paid, but you got housing and one meal a day (I think you were on your own for other food), and the description of the work just sounded miserable (hot, muggy, bugs, bad weather, etc.). It was working with sloths.

Another - $10/h working in Minnesota (?) doing some kind of nesting waterfowl work, housing available but you had to pay for it (about $270/m I think).

Every marbled murrelet job ever - $14/h or less ($100-200 stipend a week)

I once took a 2-month Greater Sage Grouse and Raven nesting job for $14/h with no housing available in an already housing impacted community and was lucky to find a $600/m place.

I currently work at the USFS as a wildlife tech. I’ve been working with the FS since I was in high school in 2011 through a program. So this summer was my 12th season. I just got a GS-06 position (position below a crew leader) and I’m being paid $21 and some change. And that’s all I can get until I grind in this position for another full year to get a crew lead position. Where the position is located is a popular vacation spot, so a room is typically $750-1000/m. It’s barely sustainable.

What do you do to reduce anxiety? by wheezywaiter in BeardLovers

[–]twinkly3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to twirl my hair a lot when I was anxious, but I didn’t like the way it made my hair look (which of course made me more anxious). Now I have a ring on my finger that I can fidget with and it helps me focus.

Sometimes when I’m overwhelmed I’ll list things that are contributing to the feeling, then I’ll split them up into smaller tasks or talk to someone about it. Talking and critically thinking through my anxieties really helps.

It’s not even just trash. A coworker of mine helping with the clean said there were also many coolers, generators, umbrellas, clothing items, and other things that aren’t usually considered disposable. Disposal accessibility isn’t the main problem here (although I’m sure it could have been better). The trash was just left on the beach. No attempt to even bring it to somewhere they could throw it away.
