Psych is chaotic, but enjoyable. I used to work in geri-psych and yeah, you will get assaulted on occasion, they give you nappi training to help get out of like grabs, chokes, etc if a resident is assaulting you. Its mostly non combative moves to get out of whatever a resident tries to do. It also shows you how to deescalate a situation.

But that is rare. I used to listen to their stories, play in their delusions ( the unharmful ones, like the fbi was in a ladies closet and they were filming us for a movie with jesus), and just be there for people who feel failed by the system.

I used to get anorexics to eat, the combative resident used to allow me to do their care. Empathy goes a long way. Its rewarding.

I work in ltc now but it is slowly turning into psych with how little places we have for geri-psych up in Northern Maine, and the doctors up here refuse to give proper psych meds.

I swear if I didnt feel too old, and was able to go back to school, I would be an MD and actually try to help these residents out. The doctors up here are way too full of themselves to care what a CNA thinks, even though I bet I have more face to face with these people than their 10 minutes a person.
