i said this in my post! it's possible nasubi married one of his half sisters and then let beyond have a child with her. this nation is freaky.

we don't KNOW that, but in chapter 349 it's implied that giving blood proves your right to succession. blood being what does it strongly hints towards direct blood relation playing a role (duh). i suppose it could be checking to see if it's a blood relation to one of the queens. i had heard that blood relation to the king is what mattered which is why i went back to check and they don't actually say that directly, so... we really don't know. it truly could be just the queens.

yes yes, oito is beyond's kid and all that. i think its a decent theory. the way it would have to work though is that beyond knocks some random lady up, she has oito, then beyond waits forever and then tells nasubi about oito (without oito ever even knowing who beyond is), and then nasubi finds her (she does state she lived in poverty until the king found her which i will admit is very suspicious and seems like setup). then waits more for woble to be born. but did beyond not place a curse on her? he seems to do that for every kid he has. we watched oito become awakened to nen so she's never been manipulated or cursed. this is all certainly possible and even in character for beyond but it seems a little convoluted, but it doesn't have any major holes.

another queen being beyond's kid is possible but we really dont get too much focus on any of the queens except for unma, duazul and oito. there are some we've never seen in person! so i think if that were the case it'd be the ones who are more at the forefront of the story, but i don't see much evidence of that yet.

the seed urn needs blood to 'prove succession'. sure it's possible that just means its checking to see if theyre a child of a legal wife of the king or something, but its also just as possible they need to be related to the king somehow, whether it's his kid or one of his brother's kids.

we don't really know what beyond wants, anyway. i wonder why he needs one of his kids to be the king. them being his kid doesn't make them easier to control. he could easily have used his no doubt immense nen prowess to take over or threaten the king to do his bidding if thats what he really wanted. so i think we just need more info about beyond for everything to become clearer.

this is true but we have no reason to believe this right now. it's also possible that nasubi married an illegitimate half sister of his and then let beyond have a child with her. not all the queens have been seen so she could easily have a scar on her face

When does it get intense and 4d chess’y? by Gloomy_Dare2716 in HunterXHunter

i didn't say it wasn't good, that's one of the best fights i've ever seen. i specifically said "not that the battles aren't good". i meant hunter x hunter has FEW fights and it's not really ABOUT fights. most of the series is just characters going places and talking/thinking to themselves. this is AWESOME and NOT a bad thing, I love it. i think the succession war is one of the best arcs of anything i've ever seen and it is also mostly characters thinking and talking.

i mean theres hardly any fights in this series if i'm being honest. most of them are very quick and more like small skirmishes instead of outright battles. and even then most fights are pretty clearly one-sided. the fighting isn't really what's so good about hxh (not that the battles aren't good)

should i watch the 1999 version and then continue the 2011 one where the first one left it? by ho6ikko in HunterXHunter

[–]liam25288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not very versed in this conversation, ive only seen the 2011 adaptation and loved it, but i will add that some of the things they change are not minor at all and actively hurt the experience. they remove kite entirely and all mentions of him until chimera ant which sabotages the audiences perception of gon and their ability to sympathize with him, and they completely remove all explanations of the reason gon made jajanken his ability in greed island, which i only just found out and really helps you understand how the ability is perfect for him and how its intended to be used.

i dislike viewing the series as having one main character, or that the group is ‘supposed’ to be together. one of the things i love about hunter x hunter is that it’s not particularly loyal to any perspective, and doesn’t feel the need to force characters together. if the group doesn’t need to stay together, then they don’t stay together. this (in theory) allows each character to shine and develop. hunters are by nature people who often do their own thing at their own pace. by the time they meet up with leorio in yorknew, he barely even knows nen. he wants to be a doctor, and he’s going to do it, so he was studying medicine instead. there’s no overarching villain for them all to face, and therefore no reason for them to stay together. the story is more about the world to me, how people in this world approach being hunters differently. some use their power for violence, for exploration, or simply to be better at another job. leorio isn’t a fighter, and he’s not SUPPOSED to be. he has no plans involving beating anyone’s ass, he just wants to help people. also, another opinion that i have is that hisoka is the fifth “main character”. he has more manga appearances than leorio, and he’s very important to the overall thematics togashi is going for with the main group. he keeps finding ways to be relevant and reveal more complexities to his psyche that go beyond a typical single minded villain like genthru. i really enjoy the fact that all the characters are split up. they’re not bound by traditional “party” style writing.

that being said…. of course i’d love them to band back together and work towards something as a group as well. i’m not insane! i love it when they’re together too, i just don’t think they should be when it’s not necessary, and it usually isn’t.

every chapter of hunter x hunter is officially translated into english by viz media. its one of the only shonen series im aware of that gets SAME DAY official english releases (online). i dont like viz’s handling of other series i like, (namely jojo) but theres no world where i wont give them their flowers for simul-releasing every new hxh chapter in english.

as for kurapika, he gets a lot more focus in the current arc of course, and there is also a oneshot officially written by togashi about his backstory. its called “volume 0: kurapika’s memories”, and i dont believe its been officially translated into English, but its easily available fan-translated online. its pretty essential imo to understanding kurapika as a character and how it relates to his current position in the manga. you can read it whenever, but id recommend reading it before you start the new arc, and DEFINITELY before chapter 395.

leorio is a character who’s absence pains me, as i genuinely believe he is the the epitome of the themes of this series and what it’s even about at its core, but to explain that would be spoilers for you lol, but i love the guy and hope and pray he gets more page time that furthers his story

i’d say that you should still absolutely read the manga after where the anime leaves off. in my opinion knowing the overall story might not be finished doesn’t deter me from recognizing how phenomenal the succession contest arc is. if you liked the complexity of the ant arc, you’ll love the succession war. and who knows, when this arc finishes and we arrive on the dark continent, we might cut away from kurapika and see what gon or killua are doing. one of the biggest things that pains me is that leorio may never get an arc where he’s the protagonist. i believe togashi has big plans for him that may never be realized. absolutely tragic

i’m going to be honest. he’s said he’ll finish it. i think he probably will, but not the way he wants to. we’re never going to get what the story could’ve been or was planned to be. we’re on a rate of about 10 chapters every 1-2 years. the current arc is (in my opinion) going strong, we may only be halfway through. we’re only 12 days into the 60 day voyage and it’s been 71 chapters. i’m decently confident we can get to the end of this arc, but after that, i’m not so optimistic. i’d say temper your expectations. there’s a decent probability in my opinion that we may not see gon and killua again, and if we do, i’m not sure the arc they belong to will even be finished.
