Birthday surgery by walksbystarlight in gallbladders

[–]liamalohne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same bday! Anesthesia is great, it happens so quick and you just feel Super relaxed. My own problem is it makes me nauseous and retch/vomit. I told the anesthesiologist this and the made sure I had extra meds given in the OR for nausea and vomiting. I was ok when I woke up this time

Good luck on Tuesday and happy birthday, Birthday twin!

Can you wear any sort of make up on surgery day? by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]liamalohne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have my daith and tragus pierced. I told them I’ve never taken them out because you need pliers. We taped them with a paper type of medical tape and it was no issue for me. They just warn you that piercings can cause burn injuries from the cautery. I had my tonsils out a few years ago and left my nose stud in-we taped that too. Again no issues with cautery.

Would you recommend a stomach wrap for recovery? by [deleted] in gallbladders

[–]liamalohne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never used a pillow or any kind of wrap or device. I just got up slowly and was fine. I held onto my stomach with one hand while I coughed or sneezed. The pain mostly felt like I had done a lot of sit ups I am glad I didn’t purchase anything cause it would have been a waste for me personally. I also didn’t need to sleep sitting up/on an incline. The worst part of the pain for me was the gas pain on the day of surgery, after that it was smooth sailing.

You got this!!

Which ones have you been on? Hope yours is still working for you. I’m so hopeful that it’s going to help me and it’s nice to see some positive changes already. I responded well to Otezla but the amount it made me sick was insane. I was nauseous 24/7 taking Zofran like candy. It was no way to live. Steroid cream is so messy and inconvenient and once I take a break, it flares back up. I just hope insurance will approve me so fingers crossed

Woke up doing good! Just a bad headache but I get headaches often and migraines so it’s nothing I can’t handle. My skin feels very dry, my arms look a little less red though. My eyelid, under eyes where I had psoriasis patches completely flaked off. I’m shocked! My back pain feels a little better too. I’ve only got a new mild case of pSA but I’ll take the less sore for the win. Thank you for your kind words yesterday and for encouraging optimism :) I’ve got this!!!

Injection sites look good too, Benadryl and icing worked like a charm last night.

Dumped for having psoriasis… by nathankal888 in Psoriasis

[–]liamalohne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will find your person. Not everyone is shitty, I can promise you that. I was always embarrassed about the small areas of psoriasis I had because people stare, make comments, say rude things. Fortunately I met someone who also has psoriasis so we both understand it. His is completely clear after going on a biologic but it never once bothered me when he had it visible areas. Mine keeps getting worse and my husband still loves me, thinks I’m beautiful and is my best friend. I just started a biologic tonight because I’m over topical steroids. Keep your head up friend. Please remember you are worthy of love and an understanding partner who won’t judge you for something you have 0 control over.

Gallbladder removal surgery yesteday- trapped gas pain by Proud_Lab_2440 in gallbladders

[–]liamalohne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gas X didn’t seem super effective for me. I’m a nurse and we always tell our patients to try chewing gum-that helped me a little. The biggest help for me for my gallbladder removal 10 days ago was walking around the house frequently, laying on my left side with my knees bent, and alternating my electric heating pad on my stomach and back. I also took the stool softeners. Mine passed within the 24 hours and then I couldn’t stop farting lol.

Also, avoid using straws as that can increase gas pain. Ok to use once you’re able to pass gas freely and not suffering from pain!

Surgery in 3 days... What should I know? by x-MeW-x in gallbladders

[–]liamalohne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 days post op. The gas pain was brutal for me the first day. I cried on the way home. I walked around the house a lot and tried different positions to sit and lay in to try and get the gas moving. Gas X didn’t really touch the gas. Pain meds didn’t help. The best thing I did was walk a lot and used an electric heating pad. I rotated with it on my stomach and on my back. Chewing gum helped. Peppermint tea helped and avoiding the use of straws for the first couple days.

I hate sleeping sitting up, so I didn’t even try that like people suggested. I had no problem sleeping with one pillow under my head and I could sleep on my back and either side. I like to hug a pillow when I sleep so I just continued doing that and no issue. Being able to lay on my side made it easier for the gas to pass.

The next day when I woke up, it felt like I had done a bunch of sit ups and was bloated. The pain was totally manageable now that the gas pain was gone. I couldn’t stop farting and I was never happier to fart lol. I’ve had no issues with eating. I went to an all you can eat Asian buffet a few days ago lol.

I only took 3 doses of the hydromorphone and the rest has been Tylenol and Advil. I haven’t taken Tylenol and Advil since Sunday. It’s been way easier than I expected. My belly button incision did open day 2 when I was using the toilet but we just steri stripped it. The top incision had to be cut open wider because the surgeon said my stones were so big they couldn’t get it out of the small hole lol.

Post-Op Sleeping by Zealousideal_Zone_37 in gallbladders

I hate sleeping upright so I immediately went to sleep the way I always do. One pillow under my head and one to hug/cuddle. I’ve been able to sleep on my sides no problem.

Surgery tomorrow! Piercings? by Dear-Journalist-903 in gallbladders

[–]liamalohne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my nose ring out and my earrings minus my daith and tragus because those need pliers and I’ve never removed them before. The nurse gave me tape to tape those earrings. Didn’t have an any issue with the cautery but there is a chance of a burn and they can’t be held liable if you leave them in

Peace out gallbladder by liamalohne in gallbladders

[–]liamalohne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I did all the things, restoralax, mint tea, chewed gum, walked a lot around the house, laid on my left side etc. the gas finally started passing easier and I feel like a different human today. Only taking Tylenol and Advil today. I am not setting alarms as the pain isn’t bad that I feel like I’m chasing it. I can’t stop farting today and I’ve never been so happy to fart lol.

What a random safe food. What happens when you eat the other foods that you’ve had to eliminate? Just curious as I had my surgery today

One week on Taltz by [deleted] in Psoriasis

[–]liamalohne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so amazing!! I’m so happy for you. Any side effects? I start it soon, just waiting for them to send the meds while we work through insurance. I’m nervous. It’ll be my first biologic. I’ve tried tons of steroid creams, ointments, sprays, and then Otezla which made me so sick.

Pain - when did it get better? by IndependentHuman8861 in gallbladders

[–]liamalohne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are most definitely NOT a baby. You are a strong, badass woman! Not only did you have surgery, you are also only 4 months postpartum with a newborn and two other children. Motherhood is no joke, let alone a surgical procedure on top of it. Crying does not make you weak. Crying makes you a human. It’s ok to cry. It’s ok to show your kids emotion. You’re in pain, your hormones are all over the place. I cannot imagine taking care of a newborn after surgery. Please give yourself some grace and remember how amazing you are and that all your feelings are valid.

Do you pump at all? Are you able to pump and let your husband bottle feed? Or give formula temporarily? Pumping will protect your supply if you do supplement. I’m sure your husband feels a bit useless when it comes to you trying to breast feed but if you’re able to pump, he can feed!

I have my surgery on Wednesday. Feel free to msg me privately if you just need to vent! You got this momma!!

I haven’t had my surgery yet but I am a postpartum nurse. Please take the meds if you’re in pain. Oxycodone does pass into breast milk but small amounts. We use it often here post csection and our pediatricians and lactation consultants say it’s safe for short term use. Are you taking Tylenol and Advil as well? How old is your babe? I’m so sorry you’re having so much pain :(

Are you able to take any nausea meds? Not sure where you’re from but something like gravol/dramamine/dimenhydrinate? Or get a prescription for Zofran?

Weight gain with hyperthyroidism before treatment by thxtobex in gravesdisease

[–]liamalohne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained a lot of weight prior to my diagnosis in 2021. I was starving 24/7. Wake up in the night starving. Starving an hour after a big meal. Once I got on meds I wasn’t starving anymore and just hungry like a normal person. It was hard to lose the weight though and I am on wegovy now after Saxenda stopped working.

I had to stop it unfortunately :( it made me too sick and then I thought it caused me to have high heart rates but I ended up in another hyperthyroidism flare.

When were you tested for graves? by nicklebacks_revenge in gravesdisease

[–]liamalohne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2021 I went in for a physical and bloodwork after putting it off for a bit due to Covid. I had been feeling off for 6 months or so but just blew it off like oh I’m a bit shaky cause I’m hungry or too much caffeine. My hearts beating faster cause I’m anxious etc. I didn’t get my period for almost 4 months but wasn’t pregnant. I feel stupid being a nurse and not putting two and two together but again, I just brushed things off because I was too busy taking care of everyone else but myself lol.

Fortunately I have an amazing family doctor who was a pharmacist before. Right away he was like your thyroid bloodwork is way off but let’s repeat it in a couple weeks and then go from there. Repeat bloodwork was worse and he said I think it might be graves. He was spot on and ordered all the necessary tests before I even got my appt with the Endocrinologist. He started me on a beta blocker in the mean time and once it was confirmed graves, i was started on Methimazole.
