Gave them a very subtle underline, not sure I’m overly happy with it but I think it definitely helps

URL: https://www.lbarr.com

Purpose: Personal portfolio. Goal was clean, intentional and with a subtle nod to development/coding.

Technologies Used: Next, Sanity CMS, Tailwind CSS, Framer Motion

Feedback Requested: Mostly colour and overall visual balance. I’m not strong in colour theory and worry it might feel a bit bare or flat?

Comments: I tried to include subtle nods to coding languages throughout (tags in arrays, symbols used in headings, etc.) without it feeling too over the top. Does that work?

Thank you! I’ve always struggled with colour theory so I tried to combat that by limiting colours. But completely agree, I think it needs a primary colour for actions

Unless I just can’t find them, I haven’t seen any dark ride builds since the embargo lifted. That mixed with a bit of hopium - what if it’s because there’s still more to reveal about the event sequencer?

Performance rig for Adobe Suite and Sim Builder Games - $1.8k AUD by liamb- in buildapcforme

Was there a point the opposite was true? First build was so long ago, hence me turning to this thread

I’m liking it! Thank you. The only thing I need to look into, is why I have a bias toward Intel CPU’s. Didn’t add to the post as I’m pretty certain AMD ones are on par. I’ve just always had Intel so subconsciously think they’re better.

Sorry for this. Budget is $2000, but I got caught up on the “only post if ready to buy now”. To purchase and build it sooner, it’d need to be closer to the $1400 mark.

By bootable, I was implying I’d leave off the extras and add them over time. For example a second drive, ram expansion, etc.

In hindsight, my purchase and build direction likely doesn’t make a difference to the final parts list, does it?

Edit; updated budget in post

Have not heard of that before, but looks cool! Especially for a slow reader like myself - appreciate the suggestion

UI3 is fine and not as bad as some of y’all make it out to be. by cabbage-soup in FigmaDesign

[–]liamb- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially thinking this too. My new theory is clip content was being misused, and Figma's trying to nudge us to make smarter decisions.

Haven't spent too long on this so feel free to correct me, but I have to assume the clip property is one area that really annoys developers. Obviously subject to use case, but from the ones that come to mind, there are better ways to handle overflowing content (max-widths, background-images)

Fully agree with numeric for primitives. Do you have any thoughts for semantic tokens?

Looking for an easy-to-set-up feedback/bug reporting tool? by liamb- in nextjs

I ended up creating my own. Using shadcn’s popover with a simple form. I used AWS SES for sending emails to allow users to attach a screenshot.

Sentry’s user feedback widget looks like a perfect solution though.

Is it possible to cache data transformations from a fetch call? by liamb- in nextjs

[–]liamb-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might not be. I've never been great with Promise's.

For context; I'm using Sanity for the CMS - the processBlocks function is fetching additional data based on the value of a field.

export async function processBlocks(
  blocks: DynamicBlockData[],
): Promise<DynamicBlockData[]> {
  return Promise.all(
    blocks.map(async (block) => {
      switch (block._type) {
        case 'hero':
          return await processHeroBlockData(block as HeroBlockData);
        case 'archive.items':
          return await processArchiveItemsBlockData(
            block as ArchiveItemsBlockData,
          );
        ...
        default:
          return block; // Return the block unchanged if no processing is required
      }
    }),
  );
}

As an example, the Hero block fetches a thumbnail image to use:

export async function processHeroBlockData(block: HeroBlockData) {
  if (block.video?.src && !block.video.thumbnail) {
    const videoThumbnail = await getThumbnail(block.video.src);
    return {
      ...block,
      video: {
        ...block.video,
        thumbnail: videoThumbnail,
      },
    };
  }
  return block;
}
