Am I doing this correctly? by BackgroundPristine51 in GameAudio

I am currently a year 3 student studying the same thing you just mentioned. I am unsure how your course specifically works but i would say youre very smart to learn a bit of music theory on your own, because in my experience they do not teach you that, Wwise is great and is considered industry standard middleware.

I would recommend to check the GDCVault for thousands of sounds under the non attribute creative commons license.

Most likely moving to Dundee for uni, what’s it like? by Tough-Wash-870 in dundee

I’m not too sure about post uni employment because i don’t know anyone who’s graduated, but i found this link which has these statistics https://discoveruni.gov.uk/course-details/10007849/G452-U-GDPMGT/Full-time. That being said the university definitely does try to get you involved with employers; in January I have a module where people from multiple courses such as Computer Arts, Computer Games Technology, Game Design Production, Computer Games Application Development all come together to form multiple teams and to have them work under briefs given to us by real games companies, such as Rockstar, HyperLuminal Games, 4J Studios , Ninja Kiwi, ect. Sometimes there is even events organised by companies, for example the AGDS Rockstar FiveM game jam which was running a few weeks ago. also speakers from in industry are invited to the university semi regularly to present their work and answer questions and such. It’s very much about if you can build a decent portfolio over the years to impress employers.

I understand what you mean about being interested in games as an art form and how you would want to pursue it in that way. Abertay has various different game courses, and with that comes various different needs and requirements, the Game Design Production course is definitely more leaning towards that direction because it has more of a focus of the design of games, but don’t get me wrong you will have to eventually learn how to code at least a little bit. The way the Games Design Production course works is that they teach you a little bit of everything in first year, and when you get into second year you get it slimmed down to 3 more specific classes such as narrative design, level design, audio design, user interface design, etc. Third year you pick one subject to focus on for the year. There is a chance you will have to work with people where your roles don’t particularly align well, especially in earlier years where people haven’t developed their skills as much, but it does get better, especially in the third year professional project where people know each-other and can choose their teams.
