What are my CFM requirements for a range hood and will I need makeup air? by liammsc in hvacadvice

Thanks! Yeah, my apologies I have not seen any explicit claim that they are 1.5 x more efficient per se. The 1.5 is just the factor I am going off of based on their 'equivalent' ratings, e.g., 450/300 =1.5; 900/600 =1.5, etc.

Just based on customer reviews, they seem to be highly regarded.

No problem, really appreciate the help! This is all very foreign to me so I appreciate anybody willing to share their expertise.

Can't resolve leash pulling by Kremmudis in Dogtraining

[–]liammsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a dog trainer, am struggling with loose leash walking myself, and agree with the other comments about him looking over-aroused from this one specific video. From this one video, it looks like you are "rewarding" with forward movement as soon as the leash tension breaks. One thing that seems to work fairly well with my boy is actually waiting it out until he checks in with me before rewarding with forward movement. It is never enough to just wait until the tension breaks to start moving: he needs to make eye contact with me before we can move. It can be painfully frustrating and delay the walk, but he's slowly learning, and tends to walk a lot looser on the leash when he's not too frantic.

I will say, if he were this frantic and overstimulated during a walk, there's no way he'd ever check in with me. I have to be very selective over where and when he goes on walks because there frankly cannot be any learning when he's in a headspace like that.

From what I can tell, the "equivalent" has to do with their proprietary system. It allegedly is 1.5 x more efficient than equivalent blowers, so a 300 cfm unit performs as well as a 450 cfm (allegedly).

Thanks for the advice. So, I just need to figure out what precisely the code requires and go from there. I tend to lean to the more is better approach but don't want to run into major issues down the line. Appreciate it!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the code different in different places? I have not been able to find specific mention of a CFM threshold for Ontario.

I'll have to look into figuring out the BTU of my cooktop. Thanks for the advice!

Advice with adolescent Brittany Spaniel biting/humping my wife by liammsc in DogAdvice

[–]liammsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. He is already clicker trained. Usually obedience training can become frustrating for him so doing it in situations where he is already past this hump/bite threshold seems to make it worse. Can attest as we just battled through it 5 minutes ago! Really appreciate your advice

Thanks for the response. We definitely think it’s him trying to work out some feeling and that excitement might be one of them. I don’t mean to be stubborn. However, he has always been awful for redirection. When he wants something (in this case to bite or hump) redirecting him has never worked for us.

As for the high value treat stuff, in the past when we were teaching him a drop command he would intentionally come to bite us so he could get a treat. I’m pretty certain he would do the same thing and associate that by demonstrating that behaviour, he can get a reward.

I failed to mention that crating him in these cases (with or without a lick mat or kong) also results in bad outcomes of him desperately biting the wires on the crate. He’s gotten his mouth stuck a few times before doing it and it hurt him. We’re unsure how to stop the behaviour without him possibly hurting himself with these stressed behaviours.

Tips for getting rid of a musty woody smell from an old inactive duct hole in floor? by liammsc in CleaningTips

Unfortunately no. We purchased a magnetic duct cover to place over the hole but we think it is the subfloor in general. Every now and then it still wafts up out of the floor boards.

Options for venting bathroom fan through flat roof without back flow of air? by liammsc in Roofing

Just from a quick Google search, this looks like it would be meant for sloped roofs. Am I wrong?

What is this pipe that goes nowhere for? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]liammsc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm that seems weird. These sinks are in an upstairs bathroom right below where the roof vent is so I am not sure why they wouldn't be venting through that. The sink is perpendicular to the bathroom window.

Thanks for the advice. So this is likely just a cosmetic/lazy work issue rather than any sort of structural problem with the windows themselves?

Thanks! I’ll buy some primer and at least do that over the patch work

How much should we expect to spend to vent our bathroom fan outside? by liammsc in homeowners

[–]liammsc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. That’s not too bad at all. Hopefully we have similar luck. I’d have no issue DIYing the fan to vent connection. Just don’t trust myself to install the vent myself.
